Songs have the power to take us back in time, and this one takes me all the way back to 1975. Written by Michael Masser and Gerald Goffin, and recorded by American singer Diana Ross, it is the theme to the 1975 Motown/Paramount film 'Mahogany'. When it was later released as a single, this popular tune became a number-one hit on both the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, and the Easy Listening charts.
Do you know where you're going to?
Do you like the things that life is showing you?
Where are you going to?
Do you know?
I've always thought that song was very pretty. I remember hearing it a lot back in the day.
By the way, reading your posts on candy and chocolate resulted in my having a sudden need to eat the Mounds bar that was sitting in our refrigerator. Are you secretly conspiring with the candy companies, Martha?? :-)
Diana Ross was always one of my favourites! No surprise there, I am sure! I am getting an inkling where I'm going to, or where I'm trying to get to. Then the next day , it all changes! lol 1975, eh? Doesn't seem that long ago.
It seems like only yesterday I was listening to this song as a young girl. It's amazing how fast time goes. I used to wonder where I was headed, now I just take it one day at a time. It's a lot more fun this way!

This song has always been a fave of mine!
ReplyDeleteMine, too. And it still stirs up a whole bunch of emotions in me.
DeleteI couldn't even begin to count the number of times I heard this song throughout the late 70's - it was such a monster hit.
ReplyDeleteIt sure was. All the girls I knew loved it.

I would shamelessly conspire with them if they bribed me with goodies! But, alas, no such luck... :)
DeleteLove the disco ball:)
ReplyDeleteI know! Makes me smile :)
DeleteOh, that brings back memories! I used to love Diana and thought she was so beautiful and a fab singer...must go and dig out my old Diana CDs now.
ReplyDeleteI think we all did back then. She was a pretty classy lady.
DeleteHey!
ReplyDeleteNot only do I remember this song, I remember going to see the movie!
Hey, guess what? I have sent you an award! Check out my post for today!
I never saw the film; I'm not sure why. I must have just missed it.
DeleteJust got back from your blog. Congratulations on your award, and thank you for sharing it with me!
Remember the song. But I never know where I am going to. Maybe if I did, I'd be a big shot cause I'd be so "focused"!!! But I prefer it this way.
ReplyDeleteYou and me both! And I still don't think I'm quite sure where I'm 'going to'. It certainly makes for an interesting journey.
