This video shot in 1962 is a hoot. The partying that these students do is not much different from what we see on MTV and Facebook when college students nationwide make their annual pilgrimages to the beach.
It proves that the grandparents of today gave their parents plenty of trouble 50 years ago. Some things never change...
Wow that was an eye opener. Sadly I missed out on the spring break tradition. Guess I didn't need a beach to drink beer and act stupid. I found plenty places to do that around home! lol
Most of these kids were ultra conservative but the underground Beatnik generation, i.e., Peter, Paul & Mary, etc were in the coffee houses singing and reading poetry. They were on the cusp of the cultural revolution - the Bwatles, Civil rights, the pill. Fascinating look back!
Oh, that was hilarious... well up until the nuclear weapon discussion. ;) 10 hours spent doing the Twist? They must have been in fabulous shape! Great video, wonder what else they have in their archives...

ReplyDeleteWell, you weren't alone. I stayed close to home, too.

ReplyDeleteYou are right, Francie. Thank goodness for the movers and shakers who help pave the road to chance.
Delete'A fierce pursuit of fun'! Every generation does the 'tsk tsk' at the youthful generation of the time. This was a good look back to 62 whenI was 13!!
ReplyDeleteVery true! I think we want to forget some of the ridiculous things we did!
