I ran across an article the other day about a man who was paying a Chinese firm about $50,000 a year to do his work so he could spend the day surfing the web, updating his Facebook page and watching videos of cats. I wondered how in the world he was able to pay so much money to hire people to do his job until I read that he had an annual salary of over $250,000. Oh. That would certainly do it.

And then I thought about all the cat entertainment in cyberspace. I mean, these furballs are really in the spotlight these days. Their time has certainly come. There are videos of hilariously entertaining cat antics all over the place, and people are flocking to them. Laughing over them. Sharing them. Including me.
There are cats with character. Cats that are highly entertaining. Or talented. Cats with a unique look or quirky disposition. And some of these engaging cats are so popular that their owners are profiting from that celebrity status.
And then there are my cats...
These images were taken about 2 years ago, but they may as well have been taken today since things haven't changed much since then. If anything, these lazy cats are sleeping more.
Yup, that’s pretty much all they do for most of the day.
So.
I don’t think they’ll be in the spotlight any time soon.

It's funny...I'm definitely a dog person, but I do love pictures of cats and, yes, cat videos. I can't imagine spending all day looking at them though! I do love the way cats can seemingly sleep ANYWHERE. I love the way they curve and curl and stretch and drape. :-)
ReplyDeleteI think I'd go nuts watching videos of cats --- or just about anything else --- all day. This was clearly an obsession with this man. He was addicted to the internet, and that's all he could focus on.

ReplyDeleteDon't be sad, our dog and cat won't be on teh internet anytime soon either. They just sleep. And eat. And sometimes throw up.
The way my cats sometimes sleeps amazes me. They twist into the weirdest positions, and I can't imagine them being comfortable. And yet. They seem to be okay with it.

DeleteMartha so true!!! Cats seem to be so popular and dogs too!! The videos are so cute make you forget bad stuff for a while. And your cats are like mine, I swear most of the time they are sleeping until you leave the room or go out than you come home and wonder what tornado went through!!! LOL Swear one day to install a camera to see what the do when I leave!!!!

DeleteI envy the lovely sleeps your cats are having, Martha! Nothing can sleep like a cat! Or stretch like a cat! I want to come back as a cat! The Denver Museum of Nature and Science has an Egyptian cat mummy! I would always show it to my students on field trips. Cats are the coolest!
