My Furry Gang

The furry members of my family have been nagging me about getting their own page, so here it is.

We share our home with two cats and two ferrets, and they are as follows:

First, came the fuzzy, Bailey. After two years of begging me for a ferret, my daughter finally wore me down and we got one. We picked up Bailey in August 2009, two months after we moved to Kingston, Ontario. He’s the sweetest, most docile little creature I've ever had the pleasure of having in my life. Whenever I pick him up and bring him close to my face, he showers me with ferrety kisses. He's such a sweetie.

Sweet Bailey. The first pet in this home, and our first ferret ever.
Nacho came next. We picked her up from the local humane society on January 2nd, 2010. She's a quirky cat with a lot of personality and the gentlest and friendliest temperament. She is totally fearless, very affectionate and trusts us completely. She doesn’t hesitate to lie on her back and let you rub her belly. We suspect she has some Siamese in her since she has some of that breed's physical characteristics: thin and tapered tail, very slender and elongated body, glossy coat, pointy and thin face, and large ears. But what really convinces us that she's part Siamese is her talkative nature...and that harsh, squeaky (annoying) voice that tends to be a trademark with Siamese cats. She's always yapping away much to our delight dismay.

Nacho thinks she's a ferret at times.
Nacho and Bailey hit it off from the start. They are very fond of one another. It’s heartwarming to see them together.

Nacho the cat and Bailey the ferret. Best buds.
Mocha is also a rescue cat from our local humane society. She was a very nervous kitten, if not slightly feral, when we first brought her home. She has made huge strides since then, and is especially attached to me. Not only does she follow me around all day, she enjoys curling up on my lap and can be found sleeping right beside my feet when I wake up in the morning, or right near the bed waiting for me to get up. I suspect that her start in life was difficult, if not terrifying, which has made her quite apprehensive with people. I wonder if she experienced some human cruelty. I shudder at the thought. Poor little kitty...

Mocha is still a little nervous, but is getting better every day.
Nacho was a little hard on Mocha when the two were first introduced to make sure the new kitten knew who’s boss around her, but because she's such a goofball and just doesn’t have it in her to be mean, it didn’t last long. They are best buddies now, and there are never any conflicts between them. Nacho has been a huge contribution to Mocha's ability to learn to trust people.

Mocha and Nacho adore each other.
Spaz came into our lives in November 2010 after Clair (an adorable ferret companion to Bailey) passed away suddenly. He is just as gentle as Bailey, but with a lot more energy, bordering on spastic...hence, the name Spaz. The colour of his coat and his chunky body remind me of a polar bear. He's such a cutie.

Always full of beans.
I can’t imagine our home without these darling critters; they add a special joy in our lives.

    1. That's what I like most about cats - how expressive they can be!
