Old Man Winter Comes To Town

Old man winter dropped by for a visit yesterday and painted the town white while he was here. This is what the city looked like after he was gone:

Even Mr. Inski’s spot wasn’t spared...

Now, as much as I don’t like winter, I will admit that it is very scenic. Even magical, if one were to really push the issue. But I think I would appreciate this ‘magical’ sight just as much in a postcard (while I’m sipping pina coladas on a tropical island) as I would up close. Perhaps in a place like this:

In fact, I know would.

  1. Perhaps split the difference and sip pina coladas in Kingston? The scientific value of determining whether winter can be denied through precise application of rum and ferrets (in alternation, not at the same time) is invaluable.

  2. I'd say you're overdue for a tropical vacation! Seriously, Air Canada is having a 2 for 1 tropical destination sale right now :) If you can take a week off in the coming months you can book now and lock in the savings. Jan or Feb in the tropics sounds nice...

  3. Aaaaand our weather has certainly sucked - yesterday was -31 as I was leaving my house... brrr.

  4. Wondered why an old man winter, could it be an Ice Queen or Princess, or Mother North Fairy...

Well, however it is, its truly magical when the whole place is painted white with snow.

  5. Those pictures are gorgeous, Martha---a winter wonderland for sure. I love the snows that cling to everything and make the ordinary magical.

Having said that, I'll have to confess that I'm glad WE were spared the snow we expected this past weekend. Just rain. But, on the other hand, our world doesn't look near as lovely as yours.

  6. Mr. S...give me a few pina coladas and a hot bubble bath and I may just forget about winter. Until I have to step outside, of course. The ferret wouldn't do it for me though; especially since she's put on a winter coat. No one has told her she's an indoor ferret.

Tatiana, I am WAY overdue for a tropical vacation. And as tempting as the pricing is right now, I can't go any time soon. If I could, believe me, I'd be on my way already.

-31? OH MY LORD! Now that's sad. Brrrr.... We're still lingering around zero and just a tad below, so we're okay.

You know James, those names sound better. On nice winter days they actucally fit well. I guess old man winter refers to the old coot that comes once in awhile with his blizzard-style temper.

Yes, winter really is magical, aside from the cold, of course.

Hiya Beth! Believe me, I wouldn't care if we skipped winter completely. I've had decades of it, so I've had enough. And to be honest, I'd rather have all the greenery outside and flowers, grass, trees, birds, little backyard critters (especially our sweet little chipmunk Mr. Inski), etc, which would make my little world just as magical.

For now, I'm just going to have to wait it out - till March. Sigh...
