Introducing Nacho

No, not the popular snack originating from Mexico, but a little furball originating from the local humane society.

This is our Nacho:

She’s just a little over three months old and the newest member of our household. I’d planned to get a dog after the holidays but that’s been put on the backburner for awhile and for several reasons (frigid Canadian winters being one of them). In addition, this little kitty will be a much better playmate for Bailey (our ferret, for those of you that don’t already know) than a dog could ever be. The two have already had a nose to nose sniffing match while being held by different arms. I’m happy to report that there was no hissing, paw slapping or teeth bearing. Nothing to worry about. In fact, kitty purred through the whole ordeal and Bailey pretty much just stared at her dully. Both good signs.

Anyway, Bailey and Nacho will get a few more days of sniffing sessions followed by a few days of short face to face interactions. Eventually they’ll spend more and more time together, which will probably turn out to be quite interesting. Two super playful furballs? Can you say circus performances?

And no, it wasn’t me that came up with the name Nacho for this sweet little feline. That was my daughter’s idea. I was leaning towards Tortilla :)

  1. Huzzah for you adopting a black cat!! Black cats and dogs are the most difficult to find homes for, and my sister named one of her orange cats Nacho. So huzzah for Nacho!

  2. Oh wow - what a cutie pie! And I love both Nacho and Tortilla - and... what a cutie!

I love love love black cats and our first two kitties were black furballs, then we did a 180 (unintentionally - life just brought them to our doorstep) and now have snow white siblings. We too are waiting to get a dog... mostly procrastinating, really.

Congrats on your new addition and smooth integration!

  3. A beautiful little panther. I hope she and Bailey become great pals.

  4. Hi notsoangryredhead, isn't it awful that black cats and dogs have a harder time finding a home? It's ridiculous to me. Nacho is so sweet; we love her no matter what colour she is.

Hey Tatiana, thanks! Nacho is the latest addition; our family keeps growing, one furry face at a time. I like black cats too (and black dogs as well). The dog will have to wait for a bit. I think the winter has discouraged me from getting a dog right now. The very thought of having to walk one in this cold is scary!

Hi Yan, Bailey and Nacho are doing wonderfully together! They have become friends. I didn't expect it to happen so quickly but since they both have a sweet temperament, they've become buddies! I'll probably end up with a slew of photos of them racing around together.

  5. Hi Liza. I seem to have lost you in there. The comments on my blog are a little messed up. I haven't figured out why yet. Anyway, thanks for your comments. Nacho is really cute. At least we think so!

I love hearing from my blogging pals, but due to spam, I've turned on comment moderation for all posts.
