Happiness is...

...a friend you can cuddle with that doesn’t mind how hairy you are. Or smelly.

I’m happy to report that Nacho the cat and Bailey the ferret are continuing to be the best of friends. In fact, they get along better than I had hoped.

It never ceases to amaze me how different species of animals can bond and get along so well. Now, if only the different human races could do the same; what a wonderful world it would be.

  1. In fairness, humans are every bit as good at bonding with other species as Nacho and Bailey appear to be. I'm pretty sure cats fight among themselves too. And probably ferrets as well, though I don't know about that so much.[1]

Yes, you're reading me correctly: I'm refusing to concede the moral high ground to cats and ferrets.

[1] What is the aggression situation in a multi-ferret household like? Have you covered this already in Ferret Fridays?

  2. For the most part, I agree with you Mr. S. - about humans being good at bonding. The difference I see is that animals, when they do fight, don't fight because of some prejudice. A ferret isn't going to bother another ferret because it looks different or speaks another language or is in a different tax bracket. Animals don't act on petty emotions like jealousy or greed or some such thing.

I haven't covered the aggression situation in a multi-ferret household yet. But, from what I've read, the more the merrier. Ferrets seem to get a long very well, and they love having lots of ferrety company. If you had five ferrets, when it came time to sleep, they'd all cuddle up together.

  3. I LOVE that picture, Martha! They clearly do adore each other. I had to laugh at how they both are looking at you through slitted eyes as though to say, "Get that camera out of our faces---can't you see we're trying to sleep??"

  4. I'm so glad that they're getting along so well, Beth. And it's good for both of them; they're much less lonely this way.

And I'd bet that's exactly what they were thinking (get that camera out of our faces!) because the flash going off every few seconds must have been really annoying!

  5. Liza, they really are cute together. I couldn't be happier with the results. I was hoping that they'd get along somewhat, but never dreamed it would be this terrific.

  6. That is too cute! My tortoise and my bunny are the same exact way, amazingly! They cuddle right up with each other whenever we put them together!

  7. Pale gardener, I would love to see a photo of that (your tortoise and your bunny together). Now that's an interesting union!
