The Lovely Lilium Navona

It’s no secret that my favourite garden plant is the lilium. Unfortunately, it’s also the favourite garden plant of the red lily beetle, a tiny but powerful little demon that devours liliums and has them looking horrid faster than you can say “What the ‘devil’ is eating my lovely plants?”

So there’s no doubt that it’s very difficult to keep liliums in the garden when these bugs are around. But still. I love them enough to try and keep a few of these lovely plants in my garden. And one of my favourites is the Lilium ‘Navona’ with its pretty white flowers.

When I first brought it home, it was full of buds.

Within 24 hours, I had it planted in my garden. I waited (anxiously) for it to bloom.

It took awhile for this lovely lilium to put on a show, but it was worth the wait.

And once it got going, flower after flower emerged.

Aren’t these blooms lovely? I certainly think so. I hope that I will get a chance to enjoy another gorgeous display this gardening season.

  1. Thank you for your blog on Lilium'Navona'. I have a few and your characterization fits the plant. Fortunately I do not have the insect of which you speak.

I also have Lilium 'Star Gazer'.

Can I ask if you use pesticides?
