In August of 2011, an IKEA in Sydney Australia temporarily installed ‘Manland’, a place where store-phobic men could hang out while their wives and girlfriends shopped. This manly daycare, which brings to mind Smaland (Ikea’s bubble room and crafts centre for children), was filled with stimulating diversions like pinball, foosball, hot dogs and nonstop sports-playing on flat screen televisions. To make sure that the men were not abandoned, their partners got a buzzer that went off after 30 minutes, announcing that it’s time to pick them up.
Doesn’t this beat all? A playpen for men.
Here is a clip about it:
This idea was praised and criticized, and although I do have an opinion about it, I’m not going to get into that because I really want to keep this as lighthearted as possible.
I do have one question though:
Who can navigate the mammoth-sized IKEA in 30 minutes? I mean, really.
The Man Cave... sadly it would bore me. As I am geeky there is not enough electronics to peek my interest lol.
ReplyDeleteLol, I love the buzzer idea! Is there a buzzer or alarm that goes off if one of the children, sorry men, tries to leave? They're not allowed out on their own, haha!
ReplyDeletePrecisely! 30 minutes to shop in IKEA? On what planet?
ReplyDeleteYikes! This is scary on so many levels! I AM SO GLAD that I have a 'little bit of both' that would keep me out of places like this! Actually I would feel more comfortable in the main store. I bet that 'men' will eventually be banned anyway from shopping! lol
ReplyDeleteHa ha indeed! I spend hours in Ikea!
ReplyDeleteI think this is a hilarious idea. My man likes Ikea,lucky me:)
@WebDebris: I'm surprised they didn't include
ReplyDeletethat many electronics.
----
@Jane: Ha ha ha...that would be so funny!
----
@Debra: Seriously...30 minutes?
----
@Jim: Most of the men I see in this store always have that 'deer in the headlights' look...ha ha. I'm sure there are 100 other places they'd rather be.

@LaelShine: I spend a lot of time there, too, when given a chance. We don't have an IKEA here in Kingston (sad face), but I had one near my home in Montreal that I used to visit every now and then. 99% of the time I went alone. I only invited hubby to come along when I needed him to pick up something heavy!
