After An Erratic Winter...

“Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.”
- Albert Einstein -

With the winter having been so erratic, I fear that some of my more fragile plants will not be returning this spring, like the gorgeous Rudbeckia hirta ‘Indian Summer’. That would be sad.

We’ll just have to wait and see what happens this gardening season. I have my fingers crossed...

  1. Indian Summer is a perfect name for these! Hopefully they survive - they're so gorgeous - they remind me of orange sherbet :) That's why I'm sort of glad we got a dump of snow over the past few days - we were getting way too dry, hopefully some of my babies haven't died... :(

    1. These flowers are even prettier in person. I do hope they rise this spring. We have some snow, too. Finally. It was extremely dry most of the winter here. I'm curious to see what will happen with the garden this year.

  2. AS do we Martha. We think that because of our 'winter', freeze/thaw' cycles, we will lose a few.
That is a beautiful 'Brown Eyed Susan'.

    1. Mild winters with little snow are welcome by us, but the plants don't share that feeling. We'll hope for the best when the bulbs start sprouting next month.

  3. That's one of my favorite quotes. :) Those are lovely flowers, they remind me of hot, summer days. I figure I'll just let nature take care of itself, it's been doing that for... well, forever. ;) Perhaps we'll have an extremely wet spring to make up for the lack of snow this winter. After such an easy and mild winter I'll be curious too as to what the next seasons will share. I have tons and tons of things coming up in my front gardens though... that's a good sign that all is well. :)

    1. I'm hoping for some nice rainy days this spring; it's been much too dry a winter. My garden may surprise me and sprout wonderfully, which I'm hoping for. In any case, I'm eager to get out there no matter what awaits me!
