Research has shown that napping can provide a big boost for the brain. A US study discovered that individuals who napped 90 minutes in the afternoon experienced a whopping 20 percent boost in mental performance. Not surprisingly, people who suffer sleep deprivation show a significant decline in brainpower.
Looks like George Costanza had it right on Seinfeld when he built a napping area under his desk to get some much-needed shut-eye:
(Don't you just love this character?)
It’s not always feasible to schedule a nap, but it is a smart idea when you can.
My Dad (who will be 85 in April) rarely sits down, but when he does, he takes a nap. There may be 17 people in the room talking very loudly but he dozes right through it. I am happy that he does this!
ReplyDeleteYes, it's great that he does that; it gives him a chance to rest and start round two!
DeleteI like George Costanza but only in very small doses. If I watch too much of him, he gets on my nerves something fierce. Reminds me too much of certain people I know!
ReplyDeleteI feel the same way. I can take him in small doses. More than that and I want to smack him!
DeleteDearest George - the man I love to hate! I know he's only a character, but there have been a few times where I couldn't take much more of him!!
ReplyDeleteIt was his constant complaining and whining that would eventually get on my nerves. He could be hilarious, but I can only handle a little of him at a time!
DeleteThat is a big boost in performance, wow.
ReplyDeleteIt sure is. If I could do this most days, I wouldn't hesitate!
DeleteLuckily I usually get a good nights sleep every night. My biggest problem with naps is, if I take one, I can't get to sleep that night.
ReplyDeleteI used to be like that, but now it doesn't bother me. My problem is that I don't sleep enough hours at night, and the lack of sleep eventually catches up with me. Whenever I can grab a nap, I do, which isn't often enough if you ask me!
