Another song by the band War, this one reached number one on the Billboard R&B charts and peaked at number seven on the Pop Singles chart.
Some interesting trivia from Song Facts
“A low rider is a car, and also a culture. "Low Riders" are modified with hydraulic lifts that allow the driver to lower each wheel and make the car bounce. They are often customized with outrageous paint jobs, tiny steering wheels and swivel seats. The culture formed around these cars is big in the Southwestern US, and popular in Latino culture. Most of the band grew up in Southern California and were immersed in low rider culture.”
I've always liked this song but for many years had absolutely no clue what it was about.
ReplyDeleteNeither did I until I put this post together! Some much information waiting to be found...
DeleteThis is a cool song and was a monster hit. Like Debra I had no idea what it was about - I kind of though motorcycles. It could also work for that annoying sub-culture of people who walk around with their underwear exposed ie: wanna be rapper/ganstas!!
ReplyDeleteHa ha...yes, it could work very well for those people who wear their pants down to their knees...LOL... What the heck is all that about? I just can't understand it.
DeleteLol Jane. Always loved this song. Man, they can get really get those cars bouncing with the hydraulics.
ReplyDeleteWell, now we all know how it works. This is all new to me.
