What Keeps You Sane?

In this sometimes crazy world of ours, what keeps you from losing your mind? What keeps you going? What makes those moments where you want to pull the hair out of your head – or someone else’s (did I say that out loud?) - bearable?

For me it’s humour. Always humour.

Not a day goes by that I don’t laugh. Out loud. Or act silly.

Not a day goes by that I don’t seek out something funny that will make the day even better.

My husband and I join forces sometimes and we become a comedy duo. We poke fun at life. Ourselves. Others.

We joke and laugh and have an amazing time together. His nutty sense of humour is one of the things I love best about him. No one makes me laugh as much as he does.

My two daughters also have a great sense of humour. Sometimes all four of us team up and have a grand old time together.

Thank goodness for humour. What would the world be without it? I know I can’t get through the day without a dose – or two or three – of laughter.

So, what keeps you sane?

Aside from the Prozac...

  1. Oh I couldn't agree more, there's nothing I like better than a good laugh. My little dog never fails to cheer me up and make me laugh. That and some booze!

I need to share that "Your,You're" joke with a woman at the office. She dumps Friends over that mistake!

    1. Does she really? That's a little much, no? Perhaps she needs a little more humour in her life to lighten up.

  3. Thank god I have Ron to keep me laughing!! He'll laugh at almost anything where I don't find things that funny most of the time!! I'm learning, honestly, Martha! I laughed at the cat one 'trying to get stuff done'! See, I can laugh! lol

    1. I never would have thought that about you, Jim. On the contrary, I'm under the impression that you had a great sense of humour!

  4. Same here, Martha...having a sense of humor has helped to get me through a lot of dark times. And I especially enjoy laughing with my family since we all have the same, shall we say...quirky sense of humor. Also, being out in nature with just the bees and trees and birds and flowers really helps a lot---it soothes my weary spirit.

  5. O yeah, I guess we all need help keeping sane. I am so thankful for my husband, who really also is my best friend -- we can really crack each other up. And my kids too. And the animals! I love that one about the location of my cat haha

    1. We sure do need help keeping sane. Cats really do that; that's what makes that image so funny!

  8. I use humour to get through the day as well. My husband & I also kid each other quite a bit :) Getting out in & appreciating nature always recharges me and relieves my stress.

  9. Well, Martha. I sing. And I'm actually putting that in the humourous category. If you really need a laugh I will sing for you too, but it sounds as if you are doing okay even without my squawks!!

  10. Aside from Prozac? Xanax! ;-) But, I always find it so funny when I am out shopping and I see the same picture, husbands and boyfriends sitting in the sidelines waiting for their significant other... I laugh, because as I sit with them, I watch my husband fight the other women for the best shoe deal. I love the look on his face as he walks towards me holding 20 pairs of shoes as gives them to me asking if I like them. That look in my husband's face, of pure enjoyment, keeps me same. My dogs, my family and like you, a good laugh.

    1. Hahaha...that is so cute, Ana! A husband who actually likes shoes -- and shopping! Most of them act like you're torturing them.
