Once again I’m floored. Floored, I tell you. Not only by the amazing artistic skill and talent that some people exhibit, but also by the level of their patience. And it takes a considerable amount of patience to create a model out of matchsticks, doesn’t it? Any model.
So how can you not be floored by the detailed results of the Taj Mahal created with matchsticks – matchsticks! – by Indian artist, Shaikh Salimbhai back in 2011.
Take a look:
Can you believe this?
Aside from the fact that I don’t have the artistic inclination, I don’t have the patience. My nerves would be shot trying to work on this.
And yet, this young man challenged himself and built a scale replica of one of the most famous structures in the world out of (75,000 or so) wooden matchsticks. It took him a year and 19 days to accomplish this goal, and the attention to detail is spectacular. The finished product was unveiled in Ahmedabad, the capital of Gujarat, India.
And here I can barely colour between the lines...
Whoa. That is patience personified. I can't imagine working on anything like that, especially when half the time I'd be freaking out when Kip or the cats came near lol
ReplyDeleteYes, I certainly understand that. I don't think this would survive my cats!
DeleteThis is quite simply one of the most amazing things I've ever seen in my life...wow.
ReplyDeleteYup, pretty impressive!
DeleteThis is waaaaay cool! I can not even image having the patience to do this
ReplyDeleteYes, there's no way I'd have patience for something like this!
DeleteI wonder what he'll do next?
ReplyDeletePerhaps get a full time job! Lol...
DeleteLike you, I couldn't imagine ever managing to do this kind of thing. It looks wonderful though.
ReplyDeleteIt certainly is beautiful. I'm curious to know what happened with it. I should look it up.
DeleteCan you imagine his feeling of accomplishment? I'm so impressed. What a work of beauty..
ReplyDeleteYes, an incredible work of beauty.
DeleteDid he have a job? I just can't imagine doing this 24/7!
ReplyDeleteI thought that, too. Or did he do it outside of work hours?
DeleteHa ha. My reaction was the same as sophie's. If someone has already created the real Taj mahal, what's the appeal is in making one of matchsticks? I suppose it is the same satrisfaction that you get when you finish a jigsaw puzzle, eh?? Ha ha. The world is full of strange people, Martha!!!
ReplyDeleteIt certainly is, Francie. I can't imagine doing this, but for some people this type of challenge is quite satisfying.
DeleteThe purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our souls.~
ReplyDeletePablo Picasso
Great quote, Doug! I like it :)
DeleteI would not the patience to do that... I already came to grips with the fact I am an inpatient and lazy artist ;-)
ReplyDeleteNope, neither would I. I think at some point I'd snap and end up snapping the matchsticks in half... :)
Deleteimpressive indeed
ReplyDeleteIt certainly is!
DeleteThat is funny... I was just thinking a couple days ago that you never hear about matchstick creations anymore. I sit corrected. :) Truly amazing.
ReplyDeleteSmall world, isn't it? I am so surprised sometimes when something I'm thinking about ends up on someone's blog!
DeleteMy grandmother was right! 'Patience IS a virtue.'
ReplyDeleteIt certainly is!
