What’s On Your Happy List?

I ran across the video below and it really spoke to me. It’s about all the simple things that make us happy; the little things that bring us joy without us realizing just how much they do. But if we stop for a moment – really stop – they come to mind. After the video, I’ve listed 10 things that put a smile on my face. I could have gone on forever once I sat quietly and thought about it, but we all have other things to do today...

10 Things On My Happy List

1) Eating the foam on a cappuccino with a spoon

2) The sounds of hail as it hits the window

3) Bird footprints on fresh snow

4) My cat purring as it sleeps on my lap

5) A crescent-shaped moon

6) Drinking tea in my Oscar the Grouch mug

7) Walking barefoot on dry, spiky grass

8) The burst of sweet juice when I bite down on watermelon

9) The sounds a train makes as it pulls out of a station

10) Drawing a smiley face on a foggy window

What are some things on your happy list?

    1. Those are all beautiful...otters playing are so cute! I especially like the one about your Mr. shouting 'hello' when he gets home. That is truly endearing. Coincidentally, I also call my husband 'Mister' as a pet name. He calls me his missus :)

  2. I LOVE the sound of my cat purring. It's such a relaxing sound isn't it? And yes you gotta love that sound that a train makes when it pulls out of a station.

    1. Yes, a cat purring is such a relaxing sound. I often pet mine just to hear that sweet sound.

  3. Watching and listening to waves come ashore. The bird calls/songs that fill the quiet outdoors. The smell of woodsmoke from the woodstove on a crispy, cold day/night. The smell of a dairy barn (reminds me of my grandpa).

    1. That's the best way to be, Jim. Every day is special in its own way, and we shouldn't take any for granted.

  7. What a great list, Martha! I have so many little moments that bring me bliss that it would takes pages to list them all, but right in the moment I'm experiencing two of them. The window beside my computer is open (which in itself is a MAJOR happy thing) and I can hear a rufous-sided towhee looking through the dry brown leaves for bugs. It's so loud that you'd never believe it's just a little bird making that noise, and that sound gives me pleasure. Also, we have a growing tray at the window where we've planted squash and snowpea seeds for the garden and the little green shoots are all reaching for the sun and that makes me very happy, too.

    1. That is sweet, Beth! I can just imagine that little bird and all the noise it makes. I'd be grinning from ear to ear over that, too. I've been getting a real kick out of the backyard activity lately by the birds, particularly all the mating rituals that have been going on. It is quite entertaining!

  8. Finches fluttering in the bird bath; that rare golf shot when I strike the ball "pure"; being inside in front of a fireplace while a blizzard rages outside; getting money from the government.

    1. Hahaha...yes, getting money from the government can put a smile on your face. Better than them always taking it all!

I love those little finches. Everything they do is adorable; even the way they fly.

  9. I am in love with this post:)

My cat trilling at me, my daughter making a joke, the sunshine waking me up in the morning, my dog's beaming face, my mum in law's hug, black coffee, cold water, folding towels

    1. I laughed out loud with the folding towels part because for whatever reason, I enjoy that, too! I don't know what it is about that chore, but it makes me smile.

  10. This is sweet, I'll join in. Here is my happy list... A hug from someone I love, my cats playing or purring, bird song, watching the ducks and squirrels in the back yard, the rain on the roof, the first snowfall, the smell and sight of lilacs blooming, a faraway train whistle, the sunshine through the trees, a piece of beautiful music.

    1. Those are all wonderful. I really like rain hitting the roof, and even the first snowfall, although I do get tired of snow eventually!

The lilacs are taking their time blooming this year (the weather has not been good to them), but I'm hoping to get a whiff of the sweet smell of lilac flowers soon. The scent is heavenly!

  11. Hi Martha! The video was thought-provoking! I try to take time to appreciate all the little things most days. Loved your list ~ although here in Colorado, hail hitting my window might break it, not to mention shred the plants, strip the house paint, and dent the car! Just thinking through my morning, so far, I have relished the crunch of a fresh apple, sipped hot coffee diluted with half and half, chased peanut butter lumps with an electric mixer, watched the DOW reaching for 15,000, played with soap bubbles in my dishpan, sneaked an early chocolate treat, opened my crisp newspaper and tackled the daily cryptogram ~ but best of all, I have enjoyed a huge warm hug from Terry before he took off for work! Hope your day is awesome!

    1. Sounds like so many wonderful things happened within a short period of time! I imagine the rest of the day only got better. I think if we took a little time each day to appreciate a few little things that brings us joy, our happiness meter would go up!

  12. Kitty kisses and cuddles, watching my tortoise take a bath, riding my bicycle, grilled chicken sandwiches, the birds in my front yard, exploring new places, chocolate cake and ice cream.
Wow I could go on forever! Thanks for the smile!

  13. Putting my nose on Sophie's head and inhaling. She really has the sweetest smell, unlike any other dog I ever owned.

Opening a can of Canada Dry Ginger Ale, taking a swig and burping! Sorry I just love to do that! Especially with pizza!

Inhaling early morning spring as I walk through the garden.

    That's a start!!

    1. I love Canada Dry Ginger Ale! I don't do the burping part, but I do drink it with pizza!

Sophie is very sweet, and I'm not surprised she'd smell nice. And you and Jim take such wonderful care of her.
