Ever notice that when someone snaps and a horrible crime ensues, the ratings-hungry news stations will focus a lot of time on their social status? They’ll hunt down everyone that ever came remotely in contact with the ‘deranged’ person for an in-depth look into their life. And in a lot of these cases, the interviewees (who may have only made eye contact – once - with said person) will ramble on and on and on about what a loner ‘Mr. Deranged’ was; that he was so quiet and kept to himself. Because, you know, being quiet and keeping to yourself is a sure sign that you are eventually going to snap and go psycho.
Personally, I find it a little unnerving how the media puts so much emphasis on social status instead of concentrating on actual causes (or moving onto other news). Because the public gets fixated on these bits of information, and before you know it, every neighbour, co-worker or acquaintance that is quiet and keeps to themselves is labeled as peculiar and socially inept; a potential walking time bomb of gun-toting, knife-wielding, bomb-tossing madness. Which pretty much covers all introverts who are “quiet” and “keep to themselves”.
So, be on your guard, folks, ‘cause according to this ideology, as much as 1/3 of the world’s population just might go psycho on you one day.
And that includes me.
*snort*
Ppppffftttt, I'm the biggest extrovert you will ever meet and very socially engaging. However, I have psycho tendencies. You may see me on that show "Snapped" someday.
ReplyDeleteAt first I wasn't sure if you were kidding or if there really is a snow called Snapped?
DeleteAnd I'll point at the TV and say "Hey, I think I know her." :)
DeleteMe...??? I flip/flop...sometimes introvert, sometimes extrovert! What would they say about me?? A snapping flip flopper??? hahaha... The media makes me crazy!
ReplyDeleteHahaha...yes, a snapping flip flopper!
DeleteI'm definitely an introvert. I hope I don't snap someday :)
ReplyDeleteThere is a chance...be warned...
DeleteKeep 'em guessing, I say . . . .
ReplyDeleteHahaha...yup, best thing!
DeleteI hope I don't snap crackle and pop
ReplyDeleteI hope you don't either!
Deletethere is a lot of misunderstanding on introverts, my sister thinks it means I have trouble making friends which of course is not the case.
ReplyDeleteI know. I have an extremely extroverted brother and he cannot understand AT ALL how I live the way I do.
DeleteThere is no accounting for what news media does. "If it bleeds, it leads." is often their motto. Few people care about real news these day, and see it as another form of entertainment. The old movie Network covered this well.
ReplyDeleteYou are absolutely right. And it's disturbing. People tune into all kinds of sensationalized news and have no clue about real issues.
DeleteHehehe, well, I am fond of pointing out I own an axe (and a number of other sharp objects), just because it's such a nice contrast to my short, quiet and harmless-looking self...
ReplyDeleteNow, don't you go snapping on people with that axe!
DeleteOh, the media has all of us introverts waiting to explode.
ReplyDeleteI keep to myself a lot and hope doing so does not make me go psycho one day... beware world, you are warned ....LOL
And the photo with the cat cracked me up.
Yes, the world should be afraid. Because there are so many of us!
DeleteI think what people such as me, an extrovert, fears is we loud mouths unknowingly hurt introverts' feelings because we're too busy being extroverted ~ ha? ... introverts keep it all inside.
ReplyDeleteIntroverts actually listen. I do... but I have to shut up first AND so... when quiet people don't speak up? you never know what they're thinking. Even as an extrovert, I do not like being around people a lot. I like my alone time. BUT when I am in public? no surprises. HI HOW you all doing? and so forth. I can clear a room really fast.
It's a curse but at least with someone like me ... there are no surprises. quiet people surprise you. and that's not a bad thing. unless they go psycho . unlike extroverts … we take great joy in going psycho ~ figure it's our god given right.
Hahaha...you do make me smile, Carolyn. You have such a wonderful way of expressing yourself. If you snap one day, it'll be the event of the year!
Deleteright there with ya ... introvert doesn't mean crazy .... I just need my down time and space to recharge.
ReplyDeleteAs simple as that. Perhaps as time goes on, introversion will be better understood. And maybe even appreciated.
DeleteI know, right?! Even today I was feeling frustrated at how little is known about introverts.
ReplyDeleteWe have a long way to go. Thankfully, we're getting information out there about introversion for people to learn about it.
DeleteIf this makes any sense I am a sociable introvert. I did ask a few psychologists what it meant anyway as I am definitely an introvert but you would never think that on the surface. And my favorite definition of intro vs extrovert is it's not necessarily how talkative or social you are - the litmus test is when you need to recharge, do you need people and their company or do you need to rewire and recharge on your own. If anything I am more suspicious of the "soul of the party"...PS found your blog through sulky kitten
ReplyDeleteMost introverts enjoy socializing, just not as often as extroverts, or in big groups. I like getting together with people; I enjoy it very much. But I like small gatherings as opposed to parties. And I prefer time spent with people I really know and like as opposed to strangers.
DeleteThanks Martha, we are not all going to snap! Not today anyway!
ReplyDeleteYes, at least not today :)
DeleteGeez! I better keep my eyes open around here!! Never know! lol
ReplyDeleteHahaha..yes, keep your eyes open and watch your back. You just never know!
DeleteSomeone/s better watch their backs forever...........LOL!!
ReplyDeleteHahaha...yes, they should beware!
DeleteThe media is full of bull. I hate being around strangers. Why would I take the time to kill them? That would force me to interact with them in some way!
ReplyDeleteSorry, been on hiatus for a long while. Needed a break!
WebDebris! No problem about the break. If you needed it, you had to do it. No apologies necessary. Well, I'm glad you're back, and I hope you enjoyed that time off from the blogging world.
