My. Eyes. Hurt. |

What has been seen cannot be unseen... |
I wasn’t spared from this outrageously terrible fashion era. And neither were my brothers:

At least we all dressed equally badly. |
Pretty scary, no? What’s even scarier is that I must have liked the pink outfit because I wore it again on another occasion:

Yes, I'm the one with that 'funky' pink suit. My two brothers are to the left (in front). |
But how could I know any better? I was a helpless, malleable child during those years, and trusted my mother’s fashion sense. Right down to the shoes. Like in the photo below. Shoes that look like they come from a bowling alley.

The bowling alley must have had a sale on shoes. My in-the-navy-looking outfit isn't much better. |
It’s fun going through these old photos taken during some of the best years of my life. I'd do it all over again if I could...bad hair, bad fashion and avocado-coloured appliances included!
I love these photos. What a hoot.
ReplyDeleteIt's fun going through them. They are so entertaining!
DeleteEven in the 1970s I owned nor wore any clothing like the men's clothes shown here. It was jeans or slacks for me. At $27 I couldn't afford these clothes even if I would wear them.
ReplyDeleteI spent my teenage years in denim. Still prefer it to anything else! I never chase fashion, no matter whether it's pricey or not!
DeleteI feel your pain, Martha. I was a teenager in the early 70s. I cringe now, thinking of the gawdawful stuff I wore back then.
ReplyDeleteWell, at least we all looked pretty ridiculous! Hahaha...
DeleteI wonder if these fashions will ever come back?? I think it would be kinda cool LOL
ReplyDeleteMaybe for Halloween! Dress up like someone from the 70s...
Delete60s-80s was really bad fashion. Early 90's too
ReplyDeleteOh yes, you bet!
DeleteI remember those avocado coloured appliances! How times change, the hairstyles too.
ReplyDeleteYes, times certainly change! Sometimes certain fashions return. But I hope these never do.
Delete"What has been seen cannot be unseen..." bwhahahha
ReplyDeleteWhy are those women standing like gunslingers?
I know! That was my thought. So ridiculous!
DeleteHi Martha! You fashionable photos made me remember and laugh! But I think the current fashions are much worse! By the way, Thank you for posting the amazing video of the Canadian forces throughout time. It gave me shivers. I really missed teaching my kiddos "In Flanders Fields" this year and spending time talking with them about Veterans Day and Remembrance Day.
ReplyDeleteLouise, I couldn't agree more. There are some things nowadays that are pretty ridiculous. I think every generation thinks it's the best one :) It's when we look back that we ask "What the hell were we thinking?"
DeleteOh, my, I have pictures like that! This had me laughing because of the similarities. And because of the seriousness with which we wore those outfits! Thanks for sharing these. :-)
ReplyDeleteHahaha...yes, we looked pretty content with our outfits!
DeleteThose are hilarious. I have similar photos. I think you're the one who looks the most stylin' and least embarrassing.

I think being a kid saved me! Hahaha...
DeleteYIKES! Plaids, prints, bright colours, great HAIR, and those wild shoes! Guilty as charged, your Honour!! lol
ReplyDeleteHahaha... Well, I've seen some of your photos and you fit right in there, Jim! It's fun looking back, isn't it?
DeleteWOWZERS ! I remember my brother wore purple corduroys back then funky lol ! As for me I was a farm kid I wore jeans . Great old photos though ! Thanks for sharing ! Have a good day !
ReplyDeleteOnce I got into my teen years, it was jeans all the way for me! No crazy fashions!
DeleteYes, Jim certainly is guilty....not me EVAH!! Honest!
ReplyDeleteR
Hmmm...well, now... I'm not sure about that. Let's take a peek into those photo albums!
DeleteOh if you only could see the horrendousness (add laughter) oh oh so uncool!!
DeleteYou never know...I may very well see those photos one day. I really hope to visit the east coast at some point!
DeleteI'm not sure if the seventies was so much bad fashion as an adventurous time in fashion. It's interesting to compare Montreal to western Canada.
ReplyDeleteIt was definitely an adventurous time in fashion. And some of it was a little TOO much of an adventure... Hahaha...
DeleteHandsome guys! Beautiful photos and have a nice family..
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, Swati, and leaving a comment!
DeleteOMG! love these. I know I have a few of these somewhere as well .... as I recall I loved wearing a crochet vest that my grandmother made for me ... nothing says bad 70s like crochet outfits! yikes!
ReplyDeleteYes, those crochet outfits! I almost posted a photo of them here, but decided on the bright colours instead! Yikes is right.
DeleteDon't forget hot pants -- my mom made me an outfit for my first day of junior high that would be scandalous by today's standards. And I had a similar pair of "bowling shoes" only in autumn colored suede. I thought I was stylin'. Lol! Loved this post.
ReplyDeleteHahaha...yes, hot pants! Those were really something... I look at old photos of my childhood days and of my teen years and laugh at some of the things that were 'in style'!
