  2. Great video -- some very arresting images. My Dad fought at Ortona and participated in the liberation of the Netherlands as well.

  4. To be able to smile, as some in this video were able to do, is a true testament of their courage and bravery. I am always on the lookout for Ron's Dad and mine when I am looking at war footage....you never know.

    1. Isn't it amazing that they still find reasons to smile...these incredibly brave individuals. And yes, keep looking because you just never know if one day you'll spot Ron's dad or your own in a photo or video!

    1. Just returned from local Remembrance Day ceremony here in New Brunswick... seems like it gets a little better attended every year. Always very emotional to see the few survivors each time, many in wheelchairs.

    2. It is worth looking because you just never know. My parents were living in Europe during the second world war, and they (and their friends, townsfolk, relatives, etc.) have some incredible stories to tell. It was a terrible time.

  8. Those who lost their lives and many more participants brought us many things. What you've said here is simple but very meaningful.

  9. hate war .. hate it .... I watched a good deal of this video but too emotional... I can not fathom doing what these men have done ... I remember seeing the Iwo Jima Memorial during my travels and... the feeling I got was surprising. I was not prepared for that emotion.... totally overwhelmed with sorrow and pride ~ took me a bit to recover... same thing with Gettysburg...

did I say I hate wars? ... I hate wars

    1. I hate war, too, Carolyn. But sometimes it can't be helped. Good people are often forced to stand up to evil. As I get older, I am becoming more and more sensitive to these things. So many years on earth and human beings are still killing each other and doing horrible things...

  12. Brings it all home doesn't it, and after the Holocaust where pure evil walked the earth from 1938 to 1945.I read all the witnesses who survived concentration camps and when they were delivered by our soldiers and others, is it any wonder that Veterans rarely want to talk, I'm glad you gave them voice today. And I can't understand how after WW2 that hell, that there could ever be ...Greed is a monster

    1. Human beings can be so greedy and cruel! World War II was a horrible time. You think we would have learned from that. And yet, human beings are still fighting and killing one another. Just awful.
