So this was my backyard yesterday:
The garden is buried and everything looks clean and bright. It looked like this in the front of the house, too, when the snow first came down. Since then it’s been plowed, shoveled, stomped on and driven over, so now it looks like crap.
I spent some time outdoors shoveling, and let me tell you, it was very hard work. The snow was the wet kind; the kind that is extremely heavy to push or lift. By the time I was done, I’d had one heck of a workout. I guess that’s not such a bad thing.
I had this little critter watching me for awhile as I worked:
Isn’t he cute? It looks like he has a look of disgust on his face, doesn’t it? I’d have that look, as well, if I had to live outdoors this time of year. I sympathized with the critter, so I put some food out for him later on.
The first photo was taken through my kitchen window that I had opened up wide, which my cat took as an invitation to head outdoors, so she came darting towards it. I grabbed her just as she was about to go through it. She’s an indoor cat, and she’s never been outside. Since she’s so eager to get out there, I’m going to grant her wish and take her out in her harness. She’s never put paw to snow, so it will be interesting.
Speaking of cats and snow, below is a funny video about a cat discovering snow for the first time. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
Have a great day, everyone. And happy Thanksgiving to my southern friends!
I think it is soo pretty ! Nice photos !Yes Mr Squirrel does look like he has a look of discuss lol ! The storm passed by us went along the east . It is cold here today the kind of cold that bites . Thanks for sharing . Have a good day !
ReplyDeleteThat cold you had came this way yesterday, and today we're back to some mild weather. Such a weird autumn this has been! Hope your day is going well.
DeleteCute video lol sorry blogger when all wonky on me here lol ! Our cat has never been outside either since she was a stray as a kitten . I try to get her out for some fresh air but she wont have it being in front of a opened window or sliding door is enough of the out side world for here ! Have a good day !
ReplyDeleteThat is so interesting! I bet it was quite difficult for her out there. Why would she want to go back to that when she's all nice and cozy now?
DeleteI hadn't seen that Simon's Cat episode before, LOL! Her Royal Highness has never experienced snow either. I hope your cat enjoys it!
ReplyDeleteI'll take photos when I take her out. I just know it'll be a funny time. For all her bravery, some things freak her out. I think this might end up being one of them. Nasty cat lady that I am! Hahahaha...
DeleteLove the first snow fall! We got rain instead! Lots of it!
ReplyDeleteOh, I've no doubt that the snow will be headed your way at some point!
DeleteNow.... there's you a squirrel.. HAhaaa... nice fluffy squirrel tail! Beautiful snow, Martha... but makes me shiver... ohhhhh don't like getting out in snow. I love to look at it! It's warmed up to 27 degrees at almost 9am here in little ol Little Rock!
ReplyDeleteLOVE Simon's cat... kills me.
Some days are wonderfully mild, and taking walks out in the snow can be very pleasant. Other days it's way too cold! You just never know how the winter will turn out in any given year. The day I was out shoveling, it was gorgeous; I could have stayed out for hours. Some of the snow melted because of the mild temperatures. Then yesterday it got really cold and you did not want to go outside. Today it's mild again. It's a roller coaster around here!
DeleteI love Simon's cat, too. The videos are so funny!
Wet snow is the worst kind. You have to so careful because it can really exhaust you and make your heart work overtime. We had a nor'ester dump mammoth amounts of rain on us. Thankfully we are all dry. Sophie was very upset the first time ever. Must be getting older.
ReplyDeleteLOved your video!
Ron
Can you imagine how much snow you'd have had it not rained instead? You'd probably still be shoveling your way out...haha... Well, as long as it wasn't freezing rain. I hate that. It's so dangerous. And yes, you have to be very careful with heavy snow. You really push yourself when you clean that up...sometimes a little too hard!
Deletewe had a little bit of snow yesterday
ReplyDeleteAnd I bet it didn't last long!
DeleteAs you say, the snow looks nice but it has it's down side. We had the wet heavy snow for our first snow fall.
ReplyDeleteThat's the worst type to shovel! Very exhausting.
DeleteI find it really amusing that you and Liza at Good to Grow and me all got snow in the same week - and that Liza was the first - Albuquerque is definitely not the place I think of when I think of snow!
ReplyDeleteI know! When I saw Liza's post, it really surprised me! Snow in Albuquerque...all the way down south...before my area!
Deletehee oh my god you are so lucky that you could take this shot! so cute and great! I never saw it here when it was snowy :(

Thanks, Missy. I'm glad you like it. And thanks for popping by and leaving a comment!
DeleteGood thing he's got a thick fur coat...
ReplyDeleteNo kidding!
DeleteSince I come from a tropical region, I love seeing these snow clad trees. It is sparkling white. I really missed reading your posts for long!!
ReplyDeleteNice to see you again, Chirasree! For people who don't live in areas where snow is seen regularly, they are quite fascinated by it. We're very used to it, so we take it for granted!
Deleteyes winter's here! I shovelled a bit yesterday, just a bit! I actually like shovelling, good exercise!
ReplyDeleteIt is great exercise! And when it's a mild winter day, it's a joy to be outside!
DeleteYou have a winter wonderland in your backyard! Very beautiful! We had snow up in the mountains where we went for Thanksgiving. I love the stuff!
ReplyDeleteIt looks nice in the back because humans and cars don't walk/drive/stomp all over it! In areas with human activity, it just because dirty and mushy!
DeleteGosh I love your backyard it's amazing....and the video cracked me up so funny thanks a bunch Martha
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed, Lorraine! It's always nice to see you here.
DeleteWow, that is so nice!! I would run around all over and go crazy! The squirrel is so cute, but he looks a little cold.
ReplyDeleteIt was quite mild that day, so I don't think he was very cold. He was probably hungry, though, because this time of year it's hard to find food. I put some out for him later that morning to help him out!
DeleteHow beautiful. I always hate it when they plow because it digs up the dirt and grass underneath and makes it look all a mess. If we could just leave it be... but then again, we'd be hold up inside all winter long with no cars going here or there. Hmmm... is that such a bad thing. ;-) That poor squirrel looks miserably cold. He needs a coat for his coat. Our cats are all indoors... one was once wild, but he's turned out to be the most house friendly cat we actually have. Go figure. Anyway, the first time my Lucky set foot in snow he jumped in (he got out by accident!) and froze. He sunk in to about midway up his legs, his tale lifted straight in the air, his body rigid as if frozen through and did not move. He made no sound. He didn't twitch. He just turned to stone. LOL!!! I wish I could have taken a photo. I finally lifted him back up into the house and he has made no attempt to get outside ever since. That was way too much for him. Happy holidays, Bird
ReplyDeleteHahahaha...no, it's not such a bad thing! And that beautiful white wonderland the day I took this photo is gone. the snow now looks dirty and ugly. At least my backyard hasn't been trampled on, so it still looks nice enough.
DeleteThat story about your cat is funny! Poor kitty...that must have been quite traumatizing. I wonder if my cat will react the same when I take her out. I'll be doing that this week, so we'll see!
