You’re Never Too Old To Be A Swinger

Raise your hand if you came here expecting a post on the partner-swapping type of swinging.

Wow, so many of you?

Well now...

No, that’s not what this post is about. It’s about playground swinging. The kind you enjoyed as a child. And maybe some of you still do as adults.
I love swinging. Playground swinging, folks. Stay focused.

I don’t think anything can bring back childhood memories like a good old swing does. I spent many a days in the park with my brothers and the neighbourhood kids when I was a child. Lots of good times there.

Are you ever too old to play on the swings? I don’t think so. There’s no age limit for that. Just get on, have fun and feel like a kid again. Pump your legs; push them out, pull them in. Reach for the sky. Feel the wind caressing your face and playing with your hair. Close your eyes and daydream. Soar higher and higher. Pretend you can touch the clouds. Smile when you feel those butterflies in your stomach. Be in the moment.

That is the pure joy of playing on swings. There is only you, the wind and the sky.

Are you ever too old for that feeling?

  2. It's fun to do this and watch other people's reactions to an adult on the swings! As a child, I always pumped hard to see if I could as high as the bar that held the swings. Nothing beats swinging in an tire that is hung from a branch of a tree either. I used to feel so secure and "cocooned" as I sat inside the tire. Thanks for prodding my memories, Martha.

    1. I think they're secretly jealous, Cathy, that some people can let loose and just have fun! I've never swung in a tire. I have no doubt that it's a blast!

  4. I was the odd one I guess (I heard that!) as swinging always made me dizzy when I was a kid, so I stayed clear of them. Now teeder-totters were are different matter....I loved them!

  8. Awesome. My husband and I went to a dance just a couple weeks ago and danced like we were teenagers. I had to stop and wonder, "Why don't we always live like this?"

    1. Playing on the swings is like riding a bicycle...you never quite forget how to do it! Things get a little harder as we get older, but as long as we can do them, I say go for it. Thanks for stopping by. Enjoy the day!

  10. My best friend and me still frequently end up on playgrounds, and on the swings. We both look young enough that people always mistake us for teenagers, but I have no intention of stopping even when we're long past that age!

  11. Hey! Not only did I love to swing but I liked the big slide too! We used to take WAX PAPER and sit on pieces of it and slide down the slide, and we would FLY down the slide on that paper, and it made it so very slick. The big slide that we played on was so huge, I went back later to see if it was as high as I remembered...it was 10 feet off the ground!!! Man, were we tough or what!!!

    1. Wax paper! What a great idea. I've never heard of that. I bet it made the ride down that slide quite exhilarating! Yes, we were quite tough back then. I wonder how any of us made it...haha...

  14. I love to swing! I haven't in ages, though. But that feeling of flying through the air--such a free and happy feeling. Thanks for the reminder of good times for me, too. :-)

    1. We had some solid wooden ones in the parks I went to as a child. And the chains that held them up were very thick and strong!
