One of the reasons I’m drawn to certain recipes, particularly in baking, is because of the photos that accompany them. I see beautifully-decorated cakes or cookies or cupcakes or bread, and I think to myself “Hey, I’d like to make something like that.”
But the results aren’t always what we hoped for, as you can see from some of the hilarious epic recipe fails below.
I laughed out loud with these because they reminded me of my failed attempts earlier this week at decorating my sugar cookies. Let’s just say that things didn’t go quite as I expected.
Make it a great day, everyone!
I love this what it looked like and how it came out stuff. Funny.
ReplyDeleteGood photos make me want to make something, usually more than eat that something. But I love that. It's great fun to see a photo and then go ahead and make it in my lab.
It's the photos that attract me. And sometimes I just want to make it and now even eat it. Just because it looks so good.
Deletemorning, Martha! what fun ... I always think I can duplicate ... HAH ... but it's fun trying ;)
ReplyDeleteAs long as it tastes good, it's a success!
DeleteLove the set of choppers on that hedgehog cake!
ReplyDeleteThat's my favourite 'fail'! Too funny...
DeleteMy eyes popped out of my head as soon as the top picture appeared on my screen. And it stayed yummy looking. Even when they turn out deformed, they still taste great.
ReplyDeleteHave a great New Year's, Martha.
xoRobyn
That's it...as long as it tastes good, what does it matter? Happy New Year, Robyn!
DeleteLol! Yep. I do this sometimes. I see something in Martha Stewart's magazine, and think, how hard can that be? Well, the joke's always on me! That's why there's that saying 'stick with what ya know. Ya know?
ReplyDeleteEverything in those magazines looks so easy! Reality dictates something different :)
DeleteYour post is a good reminder of the fact that "food photograpy" is a specialty all its own, Martha (y'all KNOW those magazine cookie pics aren't actually the real thing, right?) I'm a pretty decent baker, but I stick to my tried and true, especially at Christmas when the pressure is on to make everything look good :) But beauty being in the eye of the beholder, I bet any little ones who got those "ugly" versions were still awestruck!
ReplyDeleteAnd HOW many helpers does that other Martha employ to make her look good??
You got it! Food photography is a specialty. The right lighting, and even food props. That's how they get the consumer to give up their money...hahaha... Would you pay a dime for something that looks like the 'failed' version? I think not! LOL...
Deletelol, why does this happen?
ReplyDeleteBecause they lie to us! LOL...
DeleteGot a laugh out of these combination photos. My favorite is the hedgehog cake. The failed one is a riot, but I'll bet it was still tasty.
ReplyDeleteThe hedgehog cake is my favourite. And I agree...I bet it tasted good no matter how it looked.
DeleteCool! Imagine baking some of those things. When I cook I look at how long it takes. The hell with the picture!
ReplyDeleteI do that, too, with a lot of recipes. That, and how many ingredients are in it. If it means spending the whole day in the kitchen, forget it!
DeleteHahahaa.. Ah well, that's what they look like within 5 seconds of eating anyway :)
ReplyDeleteHahaha..yes, that is true!
Deletelol a lot at the hedgehog one
ReplyDeleteI know! That's my favourite one!
DeleteI love them all, gosh I wouldn't get an inch done right, bravo, bravo, and I would eat them all, tralalalala
ReplyDeletelol you're terrific Martha
Hey, as long as they taste good, who cares?!
DeleteOh this is so funny ~~~ just look at those creations, ewwwwwwwwwwh!!
ReplyDeleteI know! Sometimes my baking turns out just as bad. But at least it tastes good!
DeleteOMG - these are hilarious! what a funny post
