Well, as many of you know by now, the Oxford English Dictionary crowned “selfie” the word of the year for 2013. It’s defined as “
a photograph that one has taken of oneself, typically one taken with a smartphone or webcam and uploaded to a social media website."
Selfies are everywhere, and apparently everyone is doing this. Even the animals. Take a look at the selfie below. I found it amongst a bunch of photos I took sometime in the fall.
I didn't take the photo above. Honest
(fingers crossed behind back). And I don’t know how or when my camera was snatched, but those country animals obviously like taking selfies. And they’re pretty sneaky. So keep an eye on your equipment when you’re around them.
Anyway, here are some other animal selfies from the internet to tickle your funny bone...
 |
The 'I'm so happy' selfie. |
 |
The 'awkward smile' selfie. |
 |
The 'goofing around in my college dorm room' (or in my mother's basement) selfie. |
 |
The 'look where I'm vacationing' selfie. |
 |
The 'I'm hanging around with my human friend' selfie. |
 |
The 'I'm eating my human friend' selfie. |
 |
And, of course, the group selfie. |
It may be popular, but I have yet to take a selfie. How about you?
Have a wonderful weekend!
I laughed so hard I snorted lol selfie? for real or did you make it up either way I love it and oh yeah I'm taken Maybe selfies that look a lot like yours lol thanks for making me laugh out loud, lol
ReplyDeleteI didn't make it up. Selfie is 2013's word of the year!
DeleteLOL the dog flashing the peace sign really made me laugh out loud here at work again.
ReplyDeleteWell, at least your colleagues think you're happy :)
DeleteOh my soo cute ! The first and last photos I just love . The first one I could just kiss that soft nose . Thanks for sharing . Have a good weekend !
ReplyDeleteI love when the animals come so close. I sometimes pet their soft noses. So sweet.
DeleteLol! Best selfies ever. I love the kitty at Stonehenge. I'm jealous. I've always wanted to go there!
ReplyDeleteThat's a well-traveled cat! Certainly better than me :)
DeleteYou are funny.
ReplyDeleteGotta keep you all smiling :)
DeleteSmiles are very good.
DeleteThe English language is ever evolving! I've taken one by accident, it wasn't pretty!
ReplyDeleteIt certainly is! Always interesting (and strange) words being added in.
DeleteGreat pictures! I especially like the group shot.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I actually have taken a selfie for my profile pic on Blogger. I HATE to have my picture taken, but it was time to update the old picture, so I went for it. Not great, but it is more recent than the one that was up there before. In a couple months, it'll be a year old, so maybe I'll have another go at it. Then choose the less objectionable one for my blog shot.
Happy weekend!
Well, you're certainly way ahead of me. I've never taken a photo of myself. I don't even have a phone that does that. I'm way behind!
DeleteGawd, I hate taking pics, so of course I am not a selfie. In fact, first time hearing about term. The eating human selfie? Wow! I don't know if I could go with that one. Talk about bad-breath. I like the cat pic. Terrific post! Cheers!!
ReplyDeleteHahaha...yes, I'm sure there's a whole lot of bad breath in that one! I wasn't terribly surprised to hear that selfie was the word of the year. There's so much of that going around!
DeleteI don't remember authorizing you to use my own awkward smile selfie! As I explained since then... I didn't had time to shave!
ReplyDeleteSeriously before reading your post, this afternoon, I wanted to take a selfie with my wife outside... but I forgot, it was a case of too much goofing around!
Next time, I'll have to get a model release :) But even without shaving, it's a pretty cool photo...
DeleteI love selfies - especially with the web cam. Not a wrinkle in sight. Selfies are good for the ego - I think that is why they are popular. Love your cartoons!
ReplyDeleteYou might be right about why so many people are doing it, Francie! Wrinkle-free photos are definitely good for the ego :)
DeleteI love the first photo you didn't take! How sweet. What a great face.I think the one of the camel, I believe, chewing on the girl's face, that must have hurt. These are great photos. Love them. My sister and I take selfies every time she comes to town. We have a whole series of them. :D
ReplyDeleteYes, the one I didn't take! Still wondering how that furry fiend got hold of my camera :)
DeleteMartha, I'm still trying to figure out how to use my smart phone!!! By the time I figure out how to take a selfie, they be on to something else!! lol
ReplyDeleteSounds like the story of my life, Jim! I'm always behind in technology :)
DeleteHilarious what a great needed bunch of smiles, Martha ;) HAhaaaa!
ReplyDeleteHappy to oblige, Carolyn! Gotta keep my visitors smiling.
Deletefunny one with the dog in the jacket
ReplyDeleteIt's certainly making the rounds on the internet!
DeleteLOL, these are so funny! My favourite is the selfie taken with your camera.
ReplyDeleteIt's cute. I still can't figure out how/when that furry fiend got hold of my camera :)
DeleteMy fave's the cat at Stonehenge, LOL!
ReplyDeleteMine, too. Cats. My favourite ones are always with cats.
DeleteThese are great! The older I get, the less selfies I tend to take. ;)
ReplyDeleteWell, at least you've done it! You're much further ahead than me.
DeleteOh very cute selfies, now I´m following you in GFC (#113) I hope your follow me back!

Thanks for stopping by and commenting, Sakuranko. I'll check out your website.
DeleteThese are so cute Martha, thanks for making me smile. Thank you also for your kind words on my blog.
ReplyDelete~ Diane
Don't mention it, Diane. It's tough to lose a furry member of the family. I hope you are keeping well.
DeleteBeing as I'm usually single, I've taken many selfies. I used to be embarrassed about it, now I feel cool.
ReplyDeleteThose animals are quite agile to have taken those selfies.
Thanks for the pick-me-up. You're always good for that.
xoRobyn
Yes, they're certainly agile. Very impressive!
DeleteMy elderly aunt and uncle in Quebec are virtual prisoners of their house this time of year. They're too stubborn to move to an assisted living place, so they just sit indoor, fighting with each other.
ReplyDeleteWe went skiing in below zero temps last weekend and there were times when I questioned my sanity.
You are brave to ski in that type of weather!
DeleteI hope the weather gets better, so your aunt and uncle can get outside. They are probably experiencing cabin fever!
