When people are cross country skiing on Lake Ontario, you know that spring is not quite here yet. |
This has certainly been a long and hard winter. Now it’s being stubborn and doesn’t want to leave. And everyone is exhausted. And fed up. And a little irritable.
We had a very mild spring-like day last week, and some of my bulbs poked their little heads out of the warm soil. Foolish, naïve little things. The next day we had a snowstorm, and that pretty much shattered their innocence, and their faith in this world.

Okay, it's not this bad around here. But still. |
March came in like a lion, and has continued to act like one throughout the month, so I’ve given up hope on it. But we’re 2/3 through it, and I trust that April will give us better days. It has to. Or I will go stark raving mad!
So happy (technical) spring, everyone. Start wishing for good weather. If I find out any one of you is hoping for more snow, I will come there and beat you with my camera strap.
*snort*
A lovely day to all!
We had a seemingly eternal winter last year and it was followed by one of the most glorious summers I can remember. Keep the faith, Martha, you may be in for sunny days. Let's hope it's soon. By the way, did you just snort in the blogosphere? Manners!!! ;-D
ReplyDeleteThat would be wonderful...to have a glorious summer. I'm hoping that's what we get. This will pass, and we'll forget how hard the winter was. Yes, did indeed snort! Hahaha...
DeleteIt's best not to get all in a tail spin over it. We've had (don't hate me) snow storms as late as the first part of April. It'll be hot and muggy in no time, don't worry.
ReplyDeleteYou are absolutely right, Bob. Up until 5 years ago, I lived in Quebec, so I'm used to very long winters. If a snowstorm would hit in April, I wouldn't like it, but it wouldn't surprise me!
DeleteWell hopefully "real" spring will soon be making it's way there :)
ReplyDeleteOh, I know it will! It's just a matter of time.
DeleteI keep waiting...and waiting...
ReplyDeleteYou and me both, Christine!
DeleteI see signs of Spring...more birds visiting the feeder, the warmth of the sun (when I'm inside or even in the van) and the nesting instinct of Spring. I'm looking past the snow and cold temperatures. The maple sap is beginning to run. Maple Syrup season is here!! Spring is here, Spring is here, Spring is here....maybe if I say it enough it'll look more like it :) Have a great day today, Martha.
ReplyDeleteI joke around, but I feel the same way as you do, Cathy. I've also noticed those signs. Very uplifting. This morning I woke up to the beautiful signing of the cardinal. One of the loveliest sounds in this world. Made my day!
DeleteWe still have a foot of snow everywhere here, but it's slowly sagging down from 2feet 10 days ago. Snowing today though. Still, it's better than 2 years ago when we had a burst of crazy warm weather in March, and then the usual few cold nights in April, which destroyed the entire apple crop!
ReplyDeleteThat is awful. The weather is something that we have absolutely no control over! Let's hope it's a nice transition into spring without any crazy ups and downs.
DeleteHappy Spring !!
ReplyDeleteThe signs of spring have been here for some time now all our spring birds are back snow has melted a lot , lots of grass showing now and muddy lol rain snow mix here today more rain though the ground is warm birds have been pecking at it . Spring will come your way . Thanks for sharing . Have a good day !
It was so much better today. Lots of sunshine, and much better weather. A lot of our snow has melted, too, so spring is coming in!
DeleteMartha,
ReplyDeleteIt's most beautiful spring morning here.
Hope so much it comes there soon.
It will.... I know you can't wait.
x
It was a much nicer day today, Margie. It looks like you sent good vibes. Thank you! :)
DeleteHear Yay Hear Yay...the Snow Majesty as I used to be called, has rebelled and left the castle, oh winter get out of my sight! NOW please please can we actually have spring ,cause starting Spring at highs of 30 s with humidity is beyond cruel, who says Canadians aren't worthy of Spring I object ...
ReplyDeleteNot to worry, Lorraine; we'll get our fair share of spring. Hopefully it'll be a fabulous season!
DeleteSnow here this morning as well but I don't mind it. Changed my plans for the day, but no biggie. I can clip coupons and watch Drop Dead Diva after work, instead of marketing.
ReplyDeleteOn days like that, I find things to enjoy at home. Despite my complaining, which is just being silly, I find the good in each day. I'd prefer nicer days where I can spend a lot of time outdoors, but since I can't control the weather, I live around it!
DeleteI'm sorry Martha! I won't talk about the weather 'down here'. Lots of people do a rain dance, and maybe there's such a thing as a no-snow dance.. or a welcome-wishing-for-spring dance? I wish. I'll try to box some sunshine and send it up to you. If i could, i totally would!
ReplyDeleteYou must've boxed and sent that sunshine because it's here today! Thanks, Mary. You are awesome :)
DeleteI had never suspect that of you Martha... this violent side! hahaha
ReplyDeleteTo me there is some good things about the current weather... My spring allergy are not acting up, there is no need to cut the grass or weed the garden, I have to built a deck... and it has to wait for the snow to melt (for the hammer-challenge me it's a great thing :) ).
Don't worry, there will be a melt down soon enough! Just between us, I was talking to one person this week and he said he saw a Groundhog... hopefully the critters hasn't seen his shadow... again!
It's the quiet ones you have to be careful of, Richard :) Don't worry, I won't hit anyone. I wouldn't want to damage my camera strap...hahaha...
DeleteI have yet to see a groundhog. For me it'll be a good sign. 'Cause when I see one come out of hibernation, it'll be a good sign.
oh Martha the 3rd photo is just too funny! It is really not fun that you guys are getting so much snow this time of the year!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSnow during the Christmas season is great. This time of year? Not so much! But it's melting. The sun is out and the weather is nice. It'll be gone before we know it!
DeleteOuch! I felt that!! lol
ReplyDeleteActually Martha, you what I am looking forward to the most? I'll tell you then.....only wearing one layer of clothes instead of six!! Can't wait to feel light again!
Skiing across Lake Ontario........that's weird but I get it!
Here's to warmer weather and I hope you get it first and send it this way.....deal?
You got it, Jim! I can't wait to shed the extra layers of clothing, especially the socks! It'll be great to get back into sandals again.
DeleteIf I get the good weather first, I'll send you some. And I ask that you do the same!

Happy first day of spring, Birdie!
DeleteI think I detect a little desperation here. Spring is definitely coming although today we had a major blizzard!
ReplyDeleteOh, that's no good! No blizzard here, thank goodness. Sunshine and milder weather today. A lot of our snow has melted. I hope that blizzard doesn't head this way!
DeleteCrap here too, Martha.....would love some sunshine...
ReplyDeleteYour bulbs had the right idea....HIDE!
Enjoy your weekend...
Cheers!
Linda :o)
It's much nicer here today with lots of sunshine. I hope it came your way!
Deleteit's already spring down here
ReplyDeleteI imagine that your weather is wonderful right now where you are, Adam! You are further south and that makes a big difference.
