Spring Is The Season For Me

"Winter's done, and April's in the skies,
Earth, look up with laughter in your eyes!"
- Charles G. D. Roberts, An April Adoration, 1896 -

Happy April, everyone. We made it. March came in like a lion and roared for most of the month. But we survived it. Yesterday was a glorious day in my lovely city, and the warm weather and sunshine had me so energized and excited, I thought I would explode. I obviously didn't, since I’m still here.

April is the month that truly makes me think of spring, which is my favourite season. The world wakes up from its long winter nap. The birds and the butterflies return from the south. Animals build nests for their upcoming young. There are warmer temperatures and longer days. I am able to open up windows to let the fresh air in, spend more time outdoors, and go for very long walks.

Flowers rise from the earth, shrubs and trees are in bloom, daffodils and tulips reach for the sun. The colours! Mother Earth paints my world with so many colours. The birds sing joyfully in the morning. The grass turns green. Everything comes alive! I love everything about this time of year.

And you know what else is great? Shedding all the winter gear, and being able to wear one layer of clothing!

Welcome, April. I’m so glad you’re here. Now, please, wake up the earth...

Have a great month, everyone!

(What’s your favourite season?)

  1. Spring's my favourite too! I remember you saying that last year on Keith's blog and you were one of the few people besides me who said that, and I came over to visit, thinking we would have a lot in common!

    1. Well, we certainly do have this in common, Christine. Spring has always been my favourite season. And I suspect it always will be!

  2. Happy April Martha! I've been enjoying watching the birds come to visit the bird feeder now that warmer temperatures seem to be here (at least this week). There' still too much ice and snow for any of my bulbs to be sprouting yet. But the sunshine is glorious. I agree that Spring is my favourite time of year and it is long overdue. Have a great week!

  5. Spring is my favorite time too. I love seeing the little green thises and thats peeking out ... all curly and ready to uncurl ... little tiny purple and white wildflowers ... making a walk in the Park so pretty before the mowers come ... I always try to avoid walking on them .. haha .. but you can't. little ol things finally bloom and they get stepped on or mowed...

Yay! for your good weather, Martha AND Richard ... 'bout time!

    1. It's all about awakenings! I think that's what I love most about this time of year. It's like the whole world just wakes up from a long winter nap, and you get to notice all the awesome wonders of the world all over again; as if it's the first time!

  8. With your description, I can almost smell spring. It's not only the winter clothes I want to shed but I am getting tired of the cold.

    1. Yup, it's the cold that eventually exhausts us. I can handle the snow for quite awhile, but it's the really cold days that I get tired of. You end up spending more time indoors if it's very bad out!

  9. Spring is when I celebrate the New Year, and I also celebrate for the entire month of April. It's such a recharge season. Love that.

And Autumn is my favorite, in Georgia, it is still very warm and with all the color of the trees and the Yellow Daisies on my mountains, it is a time to truly enjoy!

    1. I really like autumn, as well, if the weather is nice. Some years, the fall season is gorgeous, almost like a second spring; maybe just a little colder. But some years, the fall season is horrible; cold, rainy, miserable... Autumn is always a crapshoot. You just never know what will happen!

  11. But WAIT...the dogwoods in April in Georgia are just so amazing, but before that, the cherry trees....so, SPRING! I can't choose!! xx

    1. You and me both! Winter took up too much time this year. I love having four seasons, but they should be spaced out well! No season should hog up another season's time!

  16. Spring is definitively… my number 2 season, fall is my favorite. I hate to correct myself publicly but thinking it over, spring is number 3, winter is number 2! Please don’t hold grudge about this! Hahaha

  19. Hi Martha... I am glad April is here, now I just wish the weather would cooperate! We are supposed to get almost a foot of snow tonight. Dreaming of green grass and flowers....

    1. A foot of snow? Ouch! I hope it melts quickly if it does arrive. This is the time of year for flowers and green grass, not snow!
