For the past few days, I've been painting like I've gone mad, and although I’m not entirely done, I wanted to surface and say hello.
And to introduce, once again, the baby robin that I showed a photo of in last Thursday’s blog post.
Here he is playing peek-a-boo with me.
There are no siblings. He is an 'only child'.
These photos were taken a couple of days ago when I stepped outside to take a break from painting. I was stunned by how much he’d grown in less than a week.
Isn't he adorable? It could be a she, but we've decided that it’s a he so that he can fit the name that we gave him, which is Calvin.
No no no... We didn’t name him after Calvin Klein, but after the mischievous and adventurous Calvin of the spectacularly popular comic strip ‘Calvin and Hobbes’.
Calvin is not far from being a fledgling. He sits up, curious about his surroundings, and stretches his wings, trying them out. He is practicing for his upcoming first flight, and I can’t wait to see this little baby take his first ‘steps’, or so to speak. *squeeeee*
Okay, back to the grind...
Happy Thursday, everyone!
Adorable! I do think it's a "he" due to the richness of the orange in the breast area. The male robins have the brighter orange and it shows from birth. Wonderful photos Martha :)
ReplyDeleteYou are right, Keith! I'd forgotten about that. Thank you! So Calvin it is for this little boy bird.
DeleteWhat an adorable endeavor Martha! Wonderful!
ReplyDeleteBaby birds always make my day, and this little cutie did yesterday.
DeleteHe actually looks like calvin! Something about the feathers on his head! Hope he hangs around a while longer but kids do leave home don't thaey! Hope the painting is going well and - I think our weather is about to make a turn for the better (the hotter) so best to get it done now! :)
ReplyDeleteThat's it, Francie! That is exactly why we named him that; because of the way his feathers look on his head. Reminds you of the cartoon Calvin. My husband actually came up with the name, so I won't take credit for it. Calvin actually left the nest yesterday. I went out yesterday evening to get a glimpse of him, but he and his family are not around. My husband caught a quick glimpse of him with papa robin, so he's out and about being trained to be an independent robin. I'll keep looking, so I can get some photos. But it's exciting...and very heartwarming to watch this little baby grow up!
DeleteYeah Calvin! Good to meet you!
ReplyDeleteGood series of photos Martha!
Now, back to work young lady!!
He's such a cutie. It was exciting watching him grow. Yes, yes, I got back to work and finished the projects!
DeleteWhat fun to be able to observe, and record for us, the rapid development of Calvin. He certainly is a cute little fellow.
ReplyDeleteIt sure is fun. We have robins building a nest around our home almost every year. It's possible it's the same bunch since they live for a few years.
DeleteGorgeous sneak peaks for us! Thank you. I love the name Calvin and also the comic strip. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteIt's always heartwarming to watch these feathery families grow together like this. Thanks for stopping by, Cathy!
DeleteAwwwww......so cute! Thanks for shraing the photos.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, Linda. I enjoy sharing these types of beautiful events.
DeleteCalvin is a good name for the precious little one!
ReplyDeleteGreat shots, Martha,
It suits him well. He looks like a Calvin. Thanks for stopping by, Margie!
DeleteOh he's so sweet, maybe Mama Calvin went to get food? So what colour are you using?
ReplyDeleteMama and Papa have been bringing him food several times a day. No wonder he's grown so big in a short period of time!
DeleteGreat shots. Great job on all the painting. I'm not done yet here, but very nearly as well.
ReplyDeleteHave great weekend. Cheers and boogie boogie.
I'm looking forward to relaxing this weekend. I might step out into the garden to take photos, and enjoy the sights, smells and sounds, but no work! I'll start up again on Monday relaxed and re-energized.
DeleteYou're amazing Martha - I can't get close enough to mine to get such incredible photos - ( they're up on the second floor under the eaves and there's 3 of them !!! )
ReplyDeleteBut even if I were face to face with them - my photos would be pretty lousy lol
Thanks for sharing !

This family built their nest right above our kitchen window, so it was very easy to grab photos. It's fun watching mama, papa and baby robin interacting.
DeleteClearly Calvin is an only chick. That nest is too small for anyone else!
ReplyDeleteHe got lucky. This is the typical size of a robin nest, and in the past, I've seen 3 or 4 baby robins squeezed into it. When they get bigger, they are practically falling out!
Deletemy old storage building had a nest with baby birds once. We never got close enough to tell what kind of birds they were.
ReplyDeleteThe parents made sure to conceal them well!
DeleteTaking a break to watch a young robin is a good break from painting. It's odd that there's only one that hatched.
ReplyDeleteIt is very odd. In all the years we've had robins build nests around our home, this is the only time I've seen only one baby come out of it.
DeleteA baby robin! My favorite birdie! Smiles. What a cute little guy.
ReplyDeleteHe's a real sweetie. He left the nest yesterday, and I'm hoping to grab some photos of him out in the big world.
DeleteThat is so cosy - and well done photos.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Helen, and thanks for stopping by.
DeleteIt is so careful there watching around!
ReplyDeleteIt certainly is! Making sure to stay safe while mama and papa are out gathering food.
DeleteHe is so so so cute!! :) Thank you for sharing those amazing pics with us!
ReplyDeleteIt was very heartwarming to watch this little baby grow up. Thanks for stopping by, Beate. It's always nice to see you here considering how busy you are!
Deletehe's adorable. calvin is cool - just so you didn't name him after "calvin coolidge" our "sleeping" president. word has it he slept more than lead the country. cheers!!
ReplyDeleteNope, not Calvin Coolidge. Although that is funny! I didn't know that about that president.
