Ice cream.

Yes. Yes, I do. |
I don’t have a very big sweet tooth, and there are only a few sinful foods that I really enjoy. Ice cream is one of them. It reminds me of my childhood days when I used to rush to the corner store near my home with the occasional dime I got, and head straight to the ice cream freezer so excited I could hardly contain myself. There were so many choices! I usually settled on a drumstick or a fudge bar or an ice cream sandwich or a vanilla bar dipped in chocolate (Revello). And sometimes I chose one of these:
Do you remember these ice cream cups with wooden spoons? They were extremely popular when I was a kid. I don’t know if they’re still around. I haven’t seen one in years.
In any case, even before I head outside to work in the garden, I’m already fantasizing about taking a break and enjoying some ice cream. Which raises the question: “Do I eat ice cream because I work physically hard in the garden, or do I work physically hard in the garden so that I can eat ice cream?”
Hmmm...
Do you have a favourite sweet treat?
I work physically hard because I have ALREADY EATEN the ice cream! I have a terrible sweet tooth, so I'm always making up for past calories! Tee Hee! I hope you got a chance to work to your heart's content in your garden today!
ReplyDeleteFavorite? Anything with chocolate!
DeleteHahaha...you are one step ahead when it comes to sweet stuff! Yes, I had a great day in the garden yesterday! Today was not that nice, but not a problem. I need a break from all the work, now and then.
DeleteOh yeah, those ice cream cups are still around. The nursing home serves them to my Mom all the time. Except nowadays the spoon is hard plastic.
ReplyDeleteIs that so? Well, now, I have something to look forward to in my old age :)
DeleteI run so I can eat cookies when I'm done! And I ski and hike so I can enjoy potato chips and beer. :)
ReplyDeleteAfter all that physical activity, you can treat yourself without guilt!
DeleteHahaha, love it. Yes, I remember the little wooden spoon thingy. Too funny.
ReplyDeletePS: I'm redoing the inside of my one cabinet area today. Lets me move,
with plenty of rest breaks in between.
I have to go check out your blog soon. I've fallen behind again on emails and blog stuff. Today was not that nice outside, so I took a break from the garden. And spent it catching up on indoor chores!
DeleteI'm still doing indoor stuff. Maybe next week outside.
DeleteDid you go back for more plants?
Oh my gosh, yes! I picked up a lot more plants. I'm not done yet, but the garden centers can wait. Today it's beautiful, so I'll be outdoors. Maybe I'll go get more plants over the weekend! I hope you get a chance to spend time outdoors next week. It's so nice to be outside.
DeleteIce cream & anything chocolate is my weakness. A butter finger blizzard is to die for...I'm just a mess...
ReplyDeleteHahaha...everything that's bad for us tastes so darn good!
Deleteyou sure don't have a weight problem judging from your photos! I do remember those ice creams. I had a soft serve cone yesterday, choc and vanilla swirl.
ReplyDeleteI have to work on keeping my weight in check, especially now in my middle aged years. My metabolism used to be fantastic when I was younger, and then it POOF stopped working as well when I got older. Now I have to be careful with what I eat, and I have to exercise to stay in shape.
DeleteI do remember those ice-cream cups with the wooden spoons :)
ReplyDeleteI love a little ice-cream now and then and also chocolate.
A friend recently sent me a 24 pack of jersey milk bars from Canada, my most favorite chocolate.
Think I might go have a chocolate bar now ...yum!
Jersey milk bars! Those are the best. I love them, too. I haven't had one in ages. I should treat myself to one soon. That is a very special friend you have there!
DeleteYes I remember them! The funny wooden paddles. When I first saw the image I thought it was a mini -pad and was trying to make the connecti0on. Um PMS = icecream...hahahahaha but now i get it. Guess i just haven't seen one of those spoons in a while. hahahahahha
ReplyDeleteHahaha...you are funny, Francie! Yup PMS = ice cream, so it would have worked even if that was a mini pad!
DeleteI haven't seen them either. The only problem with them is that they are way too small.
ReplyDeletePortion control, Robyn! LOL...
DeleteNow you've got me thinking about ice cream! Yes, Ice cream is my favorite and always has been.
ReplyDeleteIt's always a good time for ice cream. I hope you got a chance to enjoy some.
DeleteI've seen the spoons before but can't remember the last time. I never liked them.
ReplyDeleteI don't like them either. They leave a bad taste in your mouth.
DeletePralines and Cream or Pralines and Chocolate...you will thank me eternally
ReplyDeleteI've never tried that. I'll have to check it out!
DeleteI LOVE ice-cream :) Actually, I'm addicted to chocolate and ice-cream. And the best ever is chocolate ice-cream ;)
ReplyDeleteWe have those little containers with the wooden spoons, too :)
I think I do both - I eat chocolate when I worked hard and I work hard so I can eat chocolate ;)
You've got the perfect balance, Beate. In the summer, the garden is my excuse for eating ice cream. In the winter, it's the treadmill!
DeleteWhat a 'sweet' goal to set for yourself, Martha! That would make me work a lot harder!! Hm-m-m......
ReplyDeleteSince I don't eat ice-cream nowadays to a lactose intolerance thingy........I DO remember the days of my childhood when nothing was better than FUDGE STICKS and BURIED TREASURES!! I really liked them a lot, in case you couldn't tell!! lol
Judging from all the uppercase letters and exclamation points, I'd have to guess that you did indeed like them very much...LOL...
Delete"Ice cream cups with wooden spoons"---so many memories are treasured with it. When I was a kid, there was a man who used to pass by our lane (in front of our house) every afternoon, with his small ice-cream van. I always waited for him and used to plead my mom to buy me one almost every day. Though my pleads were granted only once or twice a week!! Feeling nostalgic!
ReplyDeleteThose are fun memories! We used to have ice cream vans like that, too. They were quite common when I was a kid. There were guys driving by with trucks selling fruits and vegetables, too. Oh yes, feeling nostalgic!
