Grumpiness Kicks In As We Get Older

"The 'Lifetime of Laughter Scale' shows that there really is a law of diminishing returns when it comes to laughter.”
- Researcher Dr Lesley Harbidge (Glamorgan University)

Ah, Ellen Degeneres. I just love that woman. She is a sharp lady, and a whole lotta fun. And I was laughing out loud this morning as I watched the video below where she says that a British study suggests that men and women begin to suffer a sharp decline in their sense of humour as they age.

And that it’s all downhill starting at the ripe old age of 52. Apparently, that’s when ‘Victor Medrew Syndrome’ kicks in, and we become more grumpy than happy.” (Click here for an article about it.)

52, huh?

Well, I better load up on funny stuff while I can because I've only got 2 ½ more years to go before I start to gripe and grumble.
The study finds that we laugh twice as much in our teens as we do in our fifties.

If you have a couple of minutes, watch this video. Ellen knows how to tickle the funny bone, no matter the age.

!

A beautiful weekend to all. Even to the grumpy ones!

  6. I love Ellen so much. Also, I think that's just kind of a median age. It depends on the person, really. Although I can see why it would happen. 52, you have been working for a long time, your family members are scattered hither and yon, you don't have kids in the home to be cheerful for… it's just been a *long time* that you're alive, and that can wear on you. But aren't British people grumpy anyway?

    1. All great points, Cassandra! It certainly depends on the person, and so many other factors.

And I laughed out loud at your comment about British people!

  7. Kids may laugh 300 times a day but they also throw a fit and cry 300 times a day! I can say I that I only cry about 73 times a day.

    1. I think that as we get older, we become impatient with nonsense, and for good reason since we've seen so much of it. So maybe we don't get grumpy. Just fed up. LOL...

  13. I now understand why, when I was little, I found so many older people grumpy. I think I've used up most of my lifetime patience quota, except where animals and little kids are concerned.
