Question Of The Day

What do you think is one of the greatest inventions of all time?

There are so many awesome inventions that instantly spring to mind, but I’m going to have to say that the humble and often forgotten flushing toilet rises to the top. This marvelous invention that we take for granted may not be as flamboyant as some others, but it has made our lives easier, and revolutionized public health.

Disposal of human waste is no longer a daily, disgusting struggle, we don’t have to use the outhouse, or worse, a bucket, and we no longer fear being doused by waste tossed from windows as we walk down the street. And our homes don’t smell like poop.

Can you imagine life without this invention? I shudder at the thought.
I love you, toilet.

What do you think is one of the greatest inventions of all time?

  8. LOL, Martha! I have had to deal with outhouses a number of places we lived. And one of my chores in Lansdowne House was to empty the family chemical toilet daily in the community depository ~ basically a bucket used by seven people that I had to lug a long ways in all kinds of weather. So I'll vote for the flushing toilet definitely!

  15. Well, certainly the toilet but pantyhose ranks right up there! you're too young to remember those @#$* girdles with the stocking clips and oh.... my heavenly father ... the garter belts ... and this was pre tampons... so you had a Kotex belt, a girdle or a garter belt ...

    man? yes... pantyhose ...

Of course that was also back in the day when we had to dress to work in an office... runs? the inventive ways of stopping a run! ... gah ... stiletto heels and stockings then yay! pantyhose ... expensive to be a woman yet we were making ... what? 10¢ an hour while men made a $1 an hour.... and could and did wear the same suit ... well, with a fresh clean white shirt and tie ... that's about it for them...

do NOT get me started ... ha?

    1. You know, that's pretty good, Carolyn. I never would have thought of pantyhose, but you are right. Or those horrid Kotex belts! BLEH... There are so many things that have come along that have made our lives easier.

And yes, I won't get you started about the inequality between men and women. 'Cause then I'm going to have to get started! LOL...
