You’re Probably Around My Age If...

...you ever had milk delivered to your house.

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, despite living in a big city, we had milk delivered to our home when I was a kid.

I was very young at the time, and this service didn’t last very long, but for a few short years a milkman brought milk right to our door. And eggs and butter if my mom requested. And no matter the time of year or the type of weather, he was always in a good mood.

A very happy memory.

Did you have milk delivered to your house?

  7. Yeah, I remember the milkman when I was growing up. The funny thing is, just the other day a guy knocked on my door and introduced himself as the milkman. He evidently was beginning a milk delivery business in my neighborhood. Since I don't drink milk anymore I had to tell him I wasn't interested.

    1. ah ... just remembered that we can still get home delivery ... you all don't have Schwann? or something similar? ... what a wonderful entrepreneurial endeavor that would be!

    2. I've never heard of Schwann. I had a woman call from some place that delivers food to your door but she was so rude and obnoxious that I ended the conversation before I got all the details. But there are places that deliver; I just haven't really looked into it.

Love the story about the ice!

  9. We did but it probably ended when I was about 5. I run out of milk all the time and would love to have it delivered everyday.

    1. I think there are still services like this in parts of Canada, but I'm not sure where. I know there is one man in Montreal that did it for over 60 years, up until recently. He may still be doing it for all I know. Not sure if he finally retired.

    1. Didn't every neighborhood back then have a kid that looked just like the milkman?

    2. but joking aside, I think that was long before my generation. Especially for a hot area like South Carolina. I don't even remember them putting photos on those milk cartons either.
