(Holiday) Question Of The Day

Where does one begin with such a question? I like so many that it’s almost impossible to pick one.

But.

There is one that rises to the top because it takes me back to my early childhood and brings to mind so many wonderful memories. I first discovered this song in a Christmas television special that was produced in 1968 and continues to be aired so many years later. The song, which is also the title of this television classic, is “The Little Drummer Boy

“The Little Drummer Boy” has been performed by many very talented individuals over the years but my all-time favourite version is by Bob Seger. Here’s a video of him singing with scenes from the beloved television special.

I fell completely in love with this tune the first time I heard it, and it continues to be a top choice.

What’s your favourite Christmas song?

  1. I will listen to it in a minute, but oh Martha that's a hard question, I love 'O Holy Night, it makes me cry every Christmas, and then 'Where are you Christmas' and then "Driving home for Christmas' and so many, many more, I have never been able to pick just one, I love them, and yours as well and one of the funniest one because it was so hard rock and such a surprise one Christmas my song gave me cds of all my favourites songs in the world not Christmas but songs I loved and to pull my strings the first one was a hard rock song of Christmas which said, among many awful things,' put the gifts by the door and leave me the fuck alone'!!!lol I'm still laughing over that one....

    1. All wonderful choices, Lorraine! I like all those songs, too.

And that is too funny about your son! Awful hard rock song, perhaps, but certainly hilarious!

    1. He's got the perfect voice for these types of songs; that's why his version speaks the loudest to me. And the song itself brings back a lot of childhood memories, and that certainly puts it at the top.

  3. That one's very sweet, though I have an affinity for "Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer."
    Smiles! xo

  4. "The Little Drummer Boy" has always been one of my favorites, Martha. Thank you for sharing it. I think my most favorite Christmas carol is the "Huron Carol" which I have loved since I first heard it in the North. It's words just resonated with me on a very deep level, and Gitche Manitou has always seemed a wonderful name for God. I hope that you are enjoying the run-up to Christmas! Have a happy day!

    1. Sounds lovely. I'm going to have to listen to the "Huron Carol". I'll search for it online.

The run-up to Christmas has been wonderful. The pace this year is so laid back. And no stress up until now. I've steered clear of the shopping madness. It doesn't get any better than that.

  5. I'm sorry to post off topic, but had to tell you this. Right now there is a Xmas song on with cats singing and Wiggy is going bat crap crazy. Add to it that her favorite bones just came off the grill and she is just plain nutso. But the cat song, I kid you not, just put her over the edge.

Right now I'm digging My Favorite Things, that oh my gosh, the singer, she escapes me. Crap.

PS: DJ said it was the Jingle Cats. It's over now. Wiggy is happier.

    2. Oh, Wiggy! She sounds adorable. You should have videotaped it! I'm sure all us bloggy pals would have loved to watch that. I'm going to have to check out Jingle Cats. I'll Google it. And Kelly Clarkson's song, too, although I think I've heard that one.

    3. I just heard Clarkson's for the first time. It's not even my favorite song but aside from one tiny area, I think she does the song well. Making it my favorite of the week.

  6. It's impossible for me to pick just ONE favourite. I love them all! Spiritual, secular, profound, goofy, ancient, modern -- doesn't matter to me, I'll sing any xmas carol ad nauseum!

  7. I like, Merry Christmas Everybody, by Slade. And many other songs, but for the life of me I can't remember what they're called!

  8. That's an easy one, Martha.....'O Holy Night'. Brings me back to a grade six Christmas concert when a boy in my class sang a solo version. It stopped everyone in their tracks!
