Question Of The Day

There have only been a handful that I've liked enough to watch more than once, and this is one of them:

Great movie and great performances, particularly by Marlon Brando and Al Pacino. And, of course, some memorable lines like "Leave the gun. Take the cannoli.” and “Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in.

I've watched The Godfather several times. And I've no doubt I'll watch it again. And again.

How about you?

  1. mmm 'Sound of Music' lame, I know
    Philadelphia, one of my favourites
Exorcist by far the scariest movie ever
All Natural Disaster Movies: like I can't think of the titles, one was 2012, one a contagious virus, one Ice Age coming on...any earthquake, Poseidon Adventure? and the Titanic, and the Passion of Christ, but that one I cried through the whole movie, so I didn't see much, but usually If I watch a movie which is rare I like adventure in Natural disasters lol

    1. OHMYGOSH...The Poseidon Adventure! That takes me way, way back. There was a remake in 2005 for TV and a film (Poseidon) in 2006, but the original dates back to the 70s. You've taken me back to my childhood, Lorraine! :)

  2. Do you know that I have never seen the Godfather? I read the book, but maybe caught glimpses and pieces of it on TV from time to time. I might need to watch it sometime. Of course having kids, you tend to see a lot of the kid movies over and over again until you almost grow sick of them, LOL :) I know one movie hubby and me enjoyed watching a few times was Bandits with Bruce Willis and Billy Bob Thornton. For a good laugh we would watch it (until son moved out and took it......hmmm.......). Gone With the Wind is another one I've seen a few times; a great movie on a big screen I think. This was fun to think about movies :)

    1. Well, on my end, I didn't see Gone With the Wind until very recently! One of the few people I know who hadn't seen it years ago. And like you, I've watched numerous kid movies. Now that my children are much older, I've fallen behind on that.

  3. Hmm...I've never seen the Godfather before either!
Just like Lorraine, I've seen the Sound of Music a few times. Others I've seen more than once are Sergeant York (starring Gary Cooper--my family has a tradition of watching it on New Year's Eve), and the Inn of the Sixth Happiness.

    1. The Sound of Music is a wonderful movie! I've seen that many times and I think I'm due to see it again. Maybe when the holidays roll around again. I haven't heard of the others you mention; I'll have to look them up.

  4. I tend to get a little obsessed about movies that I really like and see them several times. At the moment, My Rare One and I are going to multiple viewings of "The Imitation Game." She has seen it 3 times and I've seen it twice but I would gladly go again. We have become Cumberbitches, it seems.

    1. "Cumberbitches" BAHAHAHA! I love that. Never heard that before. You make me smile, Debra. I can just imagine how much fun you and your Rare One are. As for obsessive movie watching, that sounds a lot like my husband, especially the action movies that he puts on when I'm not available to sit with him. He watches them over and over and over again.

  5. Lots. I did a post on that. About A Boy, The Shawshank Redemption, The King's Speech, The Color Purple, The Full Monty, and The Help are a few!

The Godfather is too violent for me.

  9. I'm terrible. I don't watch movies at all. I can't sit long enough to enjoy a movie.

    2. We tried to rewatch Avengers last weekend but they'd taken it off NetFlix. Trying to think, oh well, Galaxy Quest, we rewatch that one, all the Harry Potters, all the writing and cooking movies we have.

    3. My gosh, once you get started you can't stop with the selection of films. This week we watched - yet again - Analyze That. Have you seen it? So darn funny. Although the first one "Analyze This" is even funnier. Billy Crystal and Robert De Niro...both terrific actors.

  15. Easy one, Martha! We only watch one movie per week, so I'm probably missing lots of gems. Or not LOL.

For the sheer beauty of the cinematography and music, I could happily watch "The Mission" every week. With the sound turned off to drool over the vistas. Or with my eyes closed to be transported by the sublime musical themes.

I actually hadn't realized, until recently, how many (and what variety of) awards it had won (not always a guarantee of quality). I actually saw it in theatre upon it's release, when I was only in my mid-20s, pre-children. Perhaps that is the reason it so marked me :)

    Runner-up: It's A Wonderful Life :)
