Today Is The Day...

...that I am officially and fabulously 50! Yesiree, folks; I made it to the half century mark. Yay me!

Half a century. Wow. I’ve been saying it out loud for a few days... “I’m 50”. Incredible.

Where did the years go? That’s what my dearest friend and I were talking about on Saturday evening when she called me. We’ve known each other since the age of four. That in itself is incredible. I still remember our first day of kindergarten.

She asked me how I feel about this milestone. Great, I told her. I've never been one to get upset about getting older. Rather, I’m always grateful for every year of life that I’m granted. And when an entire decade passes, wow, that’s something to celebrate. Ten more years shared with loved ones. Ten more years of memories and adventures and love and joy. Ten more beautiful years of this incredible thing we call life.

And all those blessed decades have brought me to the age of 50.

50. I like it.

Have a wonderful day, everyone. And be thankful for another day.

    2. Started out with full rest. But then kicked into writing, and writing an allergy-friendly formula for chocolate chocolate chip muffin.

Getting cold here again, as I write this. Burrrrr.

Hope your day was killer, too.

  7. Happy Birthday! I'm right behind you. (9 days behind you in fact! Which is why I always get your "your my age if you remember" challenges.) I'll try to take the milestone with as much grace as you do.

  9. Happy Birthday

and since 50 is the age to get teased about it, congratulations on being old.

But anyone can often be the age they feel, except one guy I know who's in his later 40s who tells all the young girls he's 30

    1. Oh, tease as much as you'd like, Adam! I don't mind. I'll even laugh along. I have a daughter this is just a little younger than you, so I'm 'technically' old!

  16. Happy Birthday, Martha! I share your take on the passing years ~ I'm grateful for every day that I am given, especially when so many people die too young. Way back, I attended the 80th birthday celebration of Watson Kirkconnell who was Acadia University's ninth president. He said that he enjoyed every decade of his life, and each decade was better than his last. He said his favorite decade was his 70s, and he couldn't wait to see what his 80s would bring. I knew then and there that that was exactly how I wanted to live my life! Keep on enjoying, my friend! XOXOX!

    1. What a great story, Louise! I love it. My thoughts exactly...especially about so many people dying so young. I try not to complain when so many sick people (and their loved ones) pray for more years. You never know when your number is called, so live each day well. Happily and gratefully.

  17. YAY!!! Happy Birthday!!! How nice it is to hear how positive your feeling is to being 50. I've slways wondered how I'd feel. My Aunt once told me, "your heart never gets older". :)

I admire you for having such a positive attitude in life, I have already noticed in your blog. I think you're a great person.

I'd like to wish you constant health, joy, never-ending love and more exciting things to come in life.

I like that poster about "being expelled from mother's uterus" :)

    Happy Birthday. Cheers!

  19. Thought I'd reel in my fishing line to wish you a VERY HAPPY 50th BIRTHDAY!!!!!

As Victor Hugo once said, "Forty is the old age of youth; fifty the youth of old age." A surprisingly optimistic sentiment from the man who wrote Les Miserables and the Hunchback of Notre Dame, but grab it with both hands and run with it anyway!!

    *Hugs* :)
