You’re Probably Around My Age If...

...you know who this is.

Ah, yes… Good old secret agent Angus MacGyver (actor Richard Dean Anderson) of the action-adventure television series ‘MacGyver’ that aired from 1985 to 1992. With his resourcefulness, background in science and encyclopedic knowledge of the physical sciences, he was able to build just about anything with every day materials he’d run across, along with his ever-present favourite items: duct tape and a Swiss army knife.

Got a couple of spare shoelaces, two soup cans and some feathers? Hand it all over to MacGyver and watch him build a helicopter.

Interested in some adventure? Give MacGyver a refrigerator, a watch, some Popsicle sticks and a paper clip, and he’ll build you a time machine.

Stove broken? No problem. MacGyver will build you a new one with sunglasses, a ball of yarn, tin foil and chewing gum.

Obviously I’m exaggerating (a little), but you get the idea.

Do you remember this character? And did you watch the show?

  1. Yes I do remember the character :) And yes I did watch the show because hubby enjoys shows like that and somewhere early in our marriage (we got married in 1980) I gave control of the remote to him (and haven't gotten it back in all these years).

MacGyver certainly was ingenious in what he could do!

    1. That's too bad, Debra. Not missing the show, but not understanding why his capabilities make for good humour.

    1. I used to watch TV in my younger years, but in the last 15 years I just don't anymore. I'm completely lost about what's popular these days.

  5. I thought I recognized him and have heard of MacGyver, but couldn't place him, as I've never actually watched the show. Maybe I should look it up sometime on Youtube if they have it--love the old secret agent shows, but have mostly watched older ones from the 60s-80s.

    1. There was a time when it was quite popular. Now we joke about the way he was able to make just about anything out of practically nothing.

  7. If I'm thinking of the right show, I'm pretty sure I watched the very last one they shot.

    1. It was awhile back and I don't remember many episodes. But I do remember how funny it was that he could make just about anything out of almost nothing.

  8. I've heard of show but never seen it. Patty and Selma on The Simpsons were obsessed with him.

  9. YES! I loved that show. In fact, the other night, Duane and i watched a couple of episodes on Netflix. So much fun! And before Richard Dean Anderson played McGyver, he played Dr. Rick Webber on the soap General Hospital.. in the Luke and Laura heyday. The hair! lol And Rick Springfield was on at the same time. When McGyver first came on, i thought hey, there's Rick Webber. Of course, now, he's more famous as the science dude who can make anything with anything. lol again.
