You’re Probably Around My Age If...

...you had or wanted to have this toy as a kid.

This classic toy, which was released the year I was born and is still around today, was really popular when I was a child. I wanted one so badly but never got one. Many years later, I picked one up for my own kids figuring they’d be just as excited about it as I had once been. Not even close. They took no interest in it, and the only one that played with it was me. Which begs the question: “Did I get it for them or for me?” Well...

Do you remember this? Have you ever played with it?

    1. It seems playing was so much simpler then. And less expensive. Now there're all the video games.

  3. Oh, I wanted this BAD when I was a kid and Spirograph first came on the market. I got one for Christmas and had many hours of fun with it! The symmetry of its geometrical designs really called to me.

  11. I look at those happy kids on the picture but I know better. She bumps him with her right arm and he freaks out and and a fight ensues. Mom takes away the Spirograph and sends them both outside.

  13. It was and still is a fun toy. Though I didn't have one, my younger sister received one as a gift (can't recall if it was for birthday or Christmas), she played with it often and on occasion, when she wasn't around, I'd play with it too.
I think children who have a strong artistic nature would probably find Spirograph lots of fun . On the other hand my sister and I were never into sports so we spent a lot of our time coloring in coloring books and doing artsy and crafty projects . . . we still do. :)

  18. My problem with Spirograph is that it looked so easy and so beautiful when done on the commercials. I was always very artistic, but I couldn't ever create a pretty design with this thing. It's not nearly as easy as the goobers on the commercial made it look. Do you agree? Light Brite was my favorite.

    1. Yes, most definitely. Commercials always make everything look easy. Like in the Easy Bake Oven ads where the cakes look professional. Not so true in real life!
