A To Z Of Gratitude: C

C is for Cat

Was there any doubt that this would be my choice for the letter c?

I have had many cats throughout my adult years, each one special in its own way. And each one with a unique personality like the one in the image below.

This is our cat, Mocha. We adopted her at the age of four months in September 2010 from the local humane society. She was a very fearful kitten, if not somewhat feral, when we brought her home. She wouldn't go near anyone and certainly wouldn't allow anyone near her.

Over the years, with love and patience and effort, she has made huge strides and has overcome many of her fears. Because I'm the one that spends a lot of time with her, feeds her and baby talks her, she is extremely attached to me. She follows me around throughout the day, curls up on my lap, sits next to me when I'm watching TV, greets me in the morning when I wake up and follows me up to bed at night. She even comes when I call her. And when I'm petting her, she looks up at me (as my husband recently stated) as if I'm some god. Correction: goddess (You are right, Debra!)

I am grateful for all the cats I've shared my life with but particularly grateful for this one. She's come a very long way.

Have a nice day, everyone!

  2. She's so cute! Glad you were willing to "take her on" so to speak way back when and work with her. Sounds like she's a wonderful member of your household!

  3. Well, you know I adore cats. I would have a houseful if I could. I still have pictures of the cats in my life that have died.

    1. I would, too, Birdie. But two cats seems to be enough to care for.

  4. that's the bad thing about cats (for their sake) is their distrust of people. Most dogs (especially younger) will run up to anyone. Not many want a cat that hisses at them and runs away. At least their better than dogs about surviving without human help, though the birds they kill probably aren't' happy

    1. That seems to be true, Adam. Cats are much more reserved.

  5. Glad she has decided you are ok (well, maybe better than ok!). We had a stray cat that was pretty wild move onto our acreage. My family fed her and gradually gained her trust, and now she just loves to be petted.

  6. She's absolutely beautiful! Cat's are magnificent creatures. So independent and yet so loving. Maybe she senses that you needed to learn to trust in love again, and so she can trust love and you? :)

    1. I've never had a dog, Lorraine, but I do love them. But cats...I've had many. And adored them all. Each one has a unique personality. And some of them do funny things. I used to have a cat that peed in the toilet! That was hilarious. I hope you are enjoying the weekend!

    1. The camera likes this cat. We have another one, all black, and she's more difficult to photograph.

    2. Is it the camera? Or the fact that the cat shines from within, and you are the world to the cat?

    3. It seems that I am the world to her. I like that she has learned to trust me as much as she has. Love and patience has helped her along the way.
