What I’ve Learned In My Life So Far

I've learned that...

Keeping an open mind can be one of the most difficult things to practice but it’s proven to be one of the best tools in my life. I don’t have to believe or accept everything that comes my way, but I’m willing to observe, listen and try to understand different points of view, opinions and ideas before coming to a conclusion. It’s not always easy, and it’s certainly a daily exercise, but well worth the effort.

Do you try to keep an open mind?

  2. That is a great quote! I do try to keep an open mind and at least listen to another's perspective, even if I don't agree with it.

    1. I think that applies to most people, Birdie. You're certainly not alone. We get set in our ways and our way of thinking, so it takes effort to keep an open mind.

  6. it's never easy. Some people try to be like "respect everyone else' culture" even when that culture has rampant misogyny, racism, homophoiba, etc

Classic "southern" culture is hard to be proud of speaking as a young man born and raised here.

    1. Yes, it's certainly never easy. But the effort is worth it. That is a very interesting comment you made about some people respecting other cultures no matter what. I'm going to write a post about that and my thoughts on it.

  7. Oh, I just looked him up (Sir James Dewar). It said that some observed that he lacked a good character. Perhaps they should keep an open mind! LOL!

  8. Throw in make judgements of the info and opinions thrown at you. Your open mind has to be able to say yes, no or maybe.

    1. Indeed. I think if we stop and listen and learn, we can make better judgments. Jumping to conclusions or refusing to hear another perspective is not being open minded.

  9. Having an open mind gives me the opportunity to either ya or neigh about something but I think now days more and more people are living with an open mind and realizing it is not for us to judge . My mum always said if the things people do don't hurt anyone then why not live and let live . Thanks for sharing , Have a good day !
