And Then There Are The Finicky Ones

Speaking of picky eaters, my cats won’t eat the food I bought them recently. It’s a brand that I get them once in awhile, one that they like, and the only thing that changed from the last time I picked it up is the flavour. I chose a different flavour this time, people, and you’d think I committed some major crime.

Every time I feed it to them, they stare at their bowls for a long time, take a quick nibble and then glare at me like I’ve fed them some type of poison. “Are you trying to kill us?

What bugs me is that they’ve eaten – and loved – this food before. And all of a sudden it’s unacceptable. So my response to them is:

And their response to my response is:

This battle of wits has been going on for the past few days.

Guess who's winning?

*sigh*

Looks like a trip to the grocery store is in order...

  1. LOL :) I wonder if the cat food got cheapened somehow since the last time you bought it and it has a different taste altogether, even if it is a different flavor.

    1. It could be, Betty. But it could also be that they're in one of their finicky moods. Sometimes they do that.

  2. hahaha the cats always win out. I have to buy 3 times of dry food for 2 cats. They won't eat unless it's mixed. And won't touch wet food, ugg.

    1. We are their puppets! hahaha... Mine love wet food, which they only get in the morning, but sometimes they turn their noses up to a particular flavour. This time. Two weeks later you can serve it again and it becomes the best thing they've ever eaten. I think they're just toying with me :) Thanks for stopping by, Pat.

  4. LOL oh Girl, I know that it's absurd and I get 3 X, suddenly they no longer like well usually 2 out of 3 so the third eats everything and then throws it up on my carpet...I can't get it clean,...I don't know what to do, before when I had the house it was all wood here it's all carpet and it's gross, I<ve tried everything and it won't go away....see 3 cats in a house isn't so bad, 3 cats in an apt with carpets, hell.....but you are deliciously funny as always lol

    1. I know what you mean about trying to clean the carpet! Sometimes I wonder if the cats throw up on them on purpose. It wouldn't surprise me.

  5. Funny but so true. Cats know they're royalty and we mere humans are their servants. Garfield Rules ! :D

  6. Could you spike their food with a little bit of tuna? When my dog won't eat, I throw some meat scraps in his kibble, and he wolfs it down.

  7. Have you tried Orijen? They are in Alberta Canada and make proper pet foods.

    1. It's not the brand; it's their attitude! I could serve the same food a couple of weeks from now and they'll act like it's the best thing they've ever been fed. They get into moods like that. Just to keep me on my toes :)

    2. Ohhhhhhhh, I see.

So now a few days later, who won?

I heard someone say once that animals won't starve themselves. Don't know if that's true or not.

    3. I picked them up some other food but before I served it, I tried the one they wouldn't eat one more time the next day. And guess what? They scarfed it down. Buggers!

  8. Everything is better with cheese. Smother it with cheese. Of course I don't have cats so I don't know if they even like cheese. LOL

  9. Ha! Our cat only eats Purina Complete Cat Chow. And...our dog decided that's pretty good too, so that's what she eats as well (she doesn't think dog food is nearly as good).

  11. So thankful none of my cats were ever picky like this but my mother has some terrible offenders! I'd send patience, but I'm all out ;)

    1. My cats are typically pretty good but once in awhile they pull this stunt. To remind me that I'm here to serve them :)

  12. It's like my doggie, he won't eat his food, he always wants what I am eating.

  13. Ha! Cats always win. Always.

  14. My dog gets sick of the same dog food. Good thing you can change brands often

    1. I usually buy the same food but once in awhile I buy something different. They're usually pretty good about it, especially if they've eaten it previously. This time, though, they're been difficult!

  15. Those are the same words my mother used. Did you tell the cats there are starving kids in China that would be darned glad to have that food?

    1. Hahahaha! That is funny. I will tell them that, Gail. And I'm sure they're just shrug! Spoiled rotten, they are :)

  16. So here's another example of my theory that pets train their owners!!!

  18. Our Molli is the exact same way. He only likes certain brands and then it has to be certain flavors of that certain brand. And I always feel like a criminal, too, when I buy a new one and he looks at me saying: Do you want me to starve today, or what? (It also cracks me up at the same time ;) Our cats definitely know how to make us do whatever they want ;) Love these pics - they made me laugh out loud :D

    1. They have us trained well, Beate! But at least I can get a good blog post out of these stubborn (but lovable) felines. Oh, the stories...
