What the cats have been contributing to the renovations. Nothing but snarky looks. |
One of the best things to happen is the removal of the carpet on the stairs leading to the second floor. A carpet that has no doubt been there since the beginning of time. Evil lurked within the fibers of this beast that even the vacuum couldn’t suck out. We rejoiced when it was banished but our black cat didn’t. She was suspicious of the carpet-less stairs and it took her a few hours to risk placing a paw on the bare wood. It was the funniest thing I’ve ever seen.

No more ugly carpet. The stairs will get painted and a runner will be added in the middle. |
And yesterday we had a company pass by and pick up a mountain of junk. Best $150 bucks we’ve ever spent. This downsizing and minimalizing journey we are on is an absolute joy. A party. Every time we get rid of some crap we don’t need an angel gets his/her wings (you have to have seen “It’s a wonderful life” to get this).
So all is going well and it looks like we will be ready by the end of the month.
Have a wonderful weekend, everyone.
Oh joy...oh bliss!
ReplyDeleteGreat job, you two!
This cooler weather must be a help too!
Enjoy your weekend!
Is there a railing for those stairs?
Show us the after!
Cheers!
Linda :o)
Yes, there is definitely a railing on those stairs. We have taken it down temporarily to remove the carpet and work on the stairs.
DeleteCats really do hate change, don't they? Such creatures of habit.
ReplyDeleteThey certainly do. Both our cats have been a little overwhelmed lately with all the changes going on around here.
DeleteI love your analogy with stuff gone and angels getting their wings; with all the stuff we got rid of from husband's parents' house, lots of wings were gotten :)
ReplyDeleteHow cute with the cat and the stairs! Must have been such a different sensation on its paws!!
I remember the guy who did the remodeling for the house currently in escrow (and closing within a week); he spent a lot of time at Home Depot getting this, getting. Majority of calls between hubby and him were when he was at such a store.
Rest a bit this weekend, okay?
betty
Poor kitty. It took her quite awhile to finally venture up the stairs. The sensation on her paws was definitely different and she was suspicious of it! She's okay now :)
DeleteI will definitely take time to rest this weekend. That is important!
It is a wonderfully liberating feeling to get rid of excess "stuff". Over time we tend to accumulate far too much and the packrat (or possibly hoarder) in us has a hard time relinquishing it. But once it's gone it feels like a heavy weight has been removed and we feel so much lighter . . . almost like being set free.
ReplyDeleteYou have accomplished much and all of your hard work and improvements will definitely get the buyers' attention.
Perfectly explained. Yes, it's almost like being set free. So liberating when you get rid of stuff that has accumulated. We really don't need that much!
DeleteWonderful progress.
ReplyDeleteDon't forget some shelters that take donations in case you are really thinning things others could use.
Absolutely. We've already donated a lot of things and will continue to do so. The stuff that was picked up this week was truly junk. Not good for donations.
DeleteGlad to see that everything is progressing so well!
ReplyDeleteSlowly but surely!
Deletewow the stairs look so good, I envy you this de-cluttering
ReplyDeleteThey are in much better shape than we expected. And we're so glad the ugly carpet that covered them is gone. I'll be painting these very soon.
DeleteGlad to hear your remodel is going well.
ReplyDeleteWe're getting there.
DeleteIf looks could kill! Your cat is seriously hating everything in that picture.
ReplyDeleteI have been decluttering as well and it does feel so good! Yesterday I picked up more boxes at Costco and intend to fill them up.
That's the best thing to do: pick up boxes and bring them home. The perfect incentive to start decluttering.
DeleteIt's going well but it's a lot of work. tTe whole thing has to be coordinated and it looks like you've got that under control.
ReplyDeleteIt really is a lot of work. But it's worth it because our home will show much better when we put it up for sale. Still. I can't wait till we're done and we can get back to our normal routine!
DeleteI am curious about the railing thing as well... I do like the look of the bare wood, a nice runner will look great :)
ReplyDeleteThe railing has been temporarily removed. There's no way we'd have a staircase without one! Much too dangerous.
DeleteOh, Martha, cats hate to have their worlds turned upside down! LOL! Things are coming along beautifully for you and George. Your hard work is paying off!!
ReplyDeleteTerry and I are living in a tiny two room + teensy bathroom hotel suite for 31 days, and each of us has the contents of a small suitcase. You really can do well with less ~ as long as I have my computer, camera, internet, and working legs and feet, I'm good to go!
I'm glad there is a railing for those stairs; that's the first thing I saw. I don't take anything slowly, and I run around the house in fat socks, so I could see me flying!
I hope that you have a little down time this weekend!
I could easily live the way you and Terry are living as long as I have the same items you've listed! It's such a simpler life. I'm tired of all this stuff around me. I can't wait till we move and eliminate most of it! I hope you are having a lovely time!
DeleteSo lovely to read about the good progress you are making - so worth all the hard work.
ReplyDeleteHope you can have a slightly more relaxed weekend!
All the best Jan
We work hard during the day but we do take the time to relax at night before it's time for bed. It's very important...to maintain our sanity! :)
DeleteA very happy 'reno' to you both!
ReplyDelete:)
DeleteCats and Carpets, wow you're brave, and atta girl and atta boy, good work ....it'll look like a million dollars when you're through!
ReplyDeleteLet's hope all this hard work pays off with a quick sale, Lorraine! Fingers crossed!
DeleteLove the stairs.
ReplyDeleteThey are in much better condition than we expected. We didn't know what we'd find once we took the carpet off. A nice paint job and a pretty runner and they'll look great.
