Chuckles and Chortles

Happy Monday. How'd the weekend go? I hope it was a good one for all of you. Ours was very quiet; sometimes you need a little of that. Maybe some of you had adventures going on yesterday or the day before. Perhaps you'll share them in the comments.

I did some grocery shopping yesterday and, as always, I'm stunned by how little you get for the amount you spend. Prices seem to have skyrocketed in the past couple of years. It makes me wonder how in the world families manage these days.

Anyhow, enough of the serious stuff. Let's get some laughter going.

Have a good one!

  1. All good ones, Martha. Yes, quiet days are good, I think so anyway.

Frankenberry's lunch is packed and he's almost out the door. I've got chores up the wazoo, and a bit more painting to do. Flippin' frost and cold here today. But boy, was that Indian Summer during staycation, just lovely.

    1. It's wonderful that you had such great weather. But even if you didn't, I have a feeling you still would have had a fantastic time. 'Cause you're that type of person :)

  3. Wouldn't you love to put that turtle one on some cars you see parked in parking lots? I loved the wedding cake one :)

I know, I'm amazed at how little you get for prices spent at grocery stores. Hubby and me mention that all the time when we come out of the store with a few bags and spent a hundred dollars. Then we think how long we had to work to make that money to buy the groceries. I too wonder how growing families make it.

  4. The wedding cake one is good! Prices must be really shocking for people like my grandparents who talk about sending a child to a fast food place to get something like 6 "wolf-burgers" for a dollar. Prices are shocking to me even, filling a grocery sack or two and parting with 50-100 dollars, especially if I have to buy anything technological--say ink jets for my printer, usb drives, expandable hard drives, etc...or just shampoo! Those type of items make the grocery shopping hurt less, but still it's hard to find good prices unless I go for the ramen noodles--I can still get 10 packages of ramen for a dollar.

    1. It seems as thought the cost of living has risen faster than salaries and you get less even though you spend more. I was having this conversation with my mom last week and she was saying that life has gotten very expensive now. She told me that once upon a time, she could really stretch her dollar. There are some items that are still somewhat affordable but not that many. My kids are all grown up but I wonder what families with small children do. It must be very hard to manage.

  5. Love the last one about the parking note. I could use that for some of the bad parkers I see around here.

  7. The turtle parking notice is really funny, and makes a point, and is a wonderful back handed insult. Thanks for your Chuckles. They are always a bright spot for me on Monday.

  10. Had a busy weekend helping Ray at the 53rd Annual Halifax Art Festival. I am tired and hurting to beat the band today but it was worth it. His art was a big hit. Loved your humor today, especially the 95% loaded one! Ha!! Tomorrow we're off to the beach for a few days R & R. I need it.

  12. I love your C&Cs, Martha! This weekend my BFF visited from Arizona. It was gut-wrenching for both of us when she moved away in June. I was flat with my medical nemesis, but that didn't matter, because we two can talk endlessly, and it did me a world of good to see her. Have a happy week! Hugs!

    1. Oh, that's wonderful! I know that kind of friend. I have one in my hometown that I moved out of in 2009. I really miss having her close by. When she calls we talk for an hour, sometimes two, on the phone.

  13. Had a good weekend here. You have to be a very shrewd shopper these days. Not only are prices high but they have every gimmick in the book to get you to by the highest priced product. You have to read very carefully . Oh I hate shopping and having to watch for all the tricks.

    1. You are so right. Going shopping is getting to be quite a challenge. If you don't stay alert, you'll spend too much and come home with things you didn't even need! Or want.
