Chuckles and Chortles

Happy Monday, everyone, and most importantly...happy spring! YES...my favourite season of the year has arrived. And there are soul-feeding things springing everywhere. The birds are singing, the daffodils are rising, the world is awakening...ah...it's all so beautiful, isn't it?

Now here's something interesting - and maybe a little amusing - about just how small this world really is...

I received an email from my brother a few days ago letting me know that the federal judge that President Obama nominated for the US Supreme Court, Merrick Garland, is married to our (first) cousin's sister-in-law. In other words, my cousin's wife is the sister of Merrick Garland's wife. What??? WHOOSH...the world got really small.

My brother joked that maybe we can be invited to the White House being somewhat (but not really) connected. Yeah! No. That'll never happen. Still, this is pretty awesome because I'm suddenly closer to the White House than anyone I know! Kind of. But not really.

Okay, enough of that. Here's some funny stuff for you.

Have a great day!

  1. If Garland gets confirmed, you never need worry again about getting a speeding ticket in the US! Great LOLs this morning, as always!

  4. That is a small world! Kind of neat to be connected like that though :)

LOL with the cat helping the blind man cross the street.

I too like spring; the trees and plants blooming and more light during the day is always a great thing!

  8. Lots of good funny stuff today. I like the dog with the man's two kids pestering him.

  9. I think that is cool about being 2 degrees (that would just be 2 right? I forget how the 6 degrees away from Kevin Bacon game worked) away from someone important. That would really step up the quality of conversation at holiday dinners. While most people would be discussing the weather, your family would be weighing in on gun control and medical care.

Very funny cartoons. Love the seeing-eye cat.

    1. It was fun getting this news from my brother. I don't keep in touch that much with my cousin, so I'll never meet these people. But my brother does and he just might end up in their company!

  12. That's a cool connection! I've heard good things about Garland and wish the Senate would do their job and work on approving him. Your Monday posts always make me chortle. LOL

  13. I love Mondays on your blog. So true about a seeing eye cat. I see someone also referred to the six degrees from Kevin Bacon game. With friends of ours we play the "Near Fame" game, where you try and one-up somebody about someone "famous" that you know (or you know someone who knows someone famous...) This would be a good one for a Near Fame game. -Jenn

    1. I've never heard of the "Near Fame" game but I think I'd really enjoy it. This may be the closest I ever get to someone famous or popular or well-known. And if it wasn't for my brother telling me, I never would have known that he was an in-law of my cousin!

  14. I was going to mention that movie "Six degrees of Separation", haven't heard of a Kevin Bacon game by the same name. My claim to fame is a very distant relationship to Winston Churchill.

Did you know that all white people are suppose to be descended from a group of around 10,000 people, after a lot died for some reason that is all that was left in Europe. So we're (i.e. me and other people of Caucasian descent) all pretty closely related if you go back far enough. Not sure about other races.

    1. I didn't know that, Natalie! That is very fascinating! And your distant relationship to Winston Churchill is pretty awesome!

Happy week, Martha, and that's pretty cool about your connection to the White House.

    1. Keith, my friend, it's so nice to see you here! At least we're connected on Facebook and Instagram, so I don't lose sight of you completely.

I'm curious to see what's going to happen with this man, as I'm sure my cousin and his in-laws are, too!

  18. I hope our Congress does its job---interesting connection. I just got told by a relative that Donald Trump is "posturing," and she likes some of what he says...I am a liberal progressive and very scared of people who think like this...

  19. Had to Google Merrick Garland and subsequently the meaning behind the name "Merrick." Mixed bag. Anyways---congrats? ;)

"He has a name, Karen." Got me giggling, thank you!

Enjoy the spring. My husband was telling me things that he loved about me last night (under duress, I assure you) and he said, "Your favorite colors to wear are fall colors, all year 'round. Doesn't matter if it's January or April, you're wearing autumnal colors." It's true. Autumn is my favorite season and I carry it throughout the year, but I wear bright colors on occasion too! and have been enjoying scouting blossoms. I love watching the little buds grow :)

    Happy Spring!

    1. Happy spring, Hannah! I hope it's a great season for you and filled many joyous days.

Autumn is your season, girl, so just enjoy those colours. At least you dress the part. You'd never guess by what I wear that my favourite time of year is spring since most of what I wear is dark!

  21. The world really is small. There's a cooking competition show with someone on it, or he was, but is no longer on it. Anyway, turns out his grandma and my grandpa, are siblings.

Who knew? I didn't until my aunt told me.

  22. Too funny! The dog with the toddlers, what an expression on its face! I would like to see Garland confirmed, but sadly, he is a political football right now. Sometimes I think the US has slipped into an alternate universe.
