So We Finally Settled On A TV Series

As I've stated before, I haven’t watched anything on TV at its scheduled time since my younger daughter was a year old. That was almost 18 years ago. The most amazing man in the world and I typically enjoy movies or binge-watch long running series, many times older ones; the most recent one being the X-Files right after we wrapped up Seinfeld.

But we've been searching for something more recent and exciting and captivating to tune into. And after much consideration, we finally settled on one. I'll let you guess which one (for those who have been following it).

Here's a hint:

Here's another one:

And here's what we established about the character, Joffrey Baratheon, within a couple of episodes:

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, we decided to watch every episode of every season of Game of Thrones until we've caught up to the rest of you who are tuning into this. Only two shows in and we're already hooked. It's not like we (especially me) didn't know about this. My two daughters have read the fantasy novels by American author, George R. R. Martin, that this TV series is based on.

And my older daughter even named her cat that she adopted from the local humane society when she stayed with us for a few months in  2012, Daenerys.

My daughter's cat, Dany (short for Daenerys)

But now we're actually seeing what it's all about. And enjoying it. We are just at the starting line but we'll catch up to the rest of you in no time!

Are you a fan of this TV series?

  1. I love Game of Thrones! But I'm really just starting too and I'm doing it the sloooooooow way. First I read a book. Then I watch the TV season which corresponds to it. So I've read the first book and watched the first year of the series. I just finished reading the second book about a month ago and when I have some time, I'm going to watch the second year of the series. Then it will be time to read the third book . . . . you see how long this could take. It's Moby-Dick all over again!

    1. You're nuts, Debra! LOL... Why do you torture yourself like this? Actually, I'm planning to read the books from this TV series. My daughter has them and she offered them to me. I told her maybe I'll borrow the first two and see how that goes. We've watch 4 episodes so far from this show and it's really good! I suspect we'll watch quite a few over the weekend!

  2. I have heard a lot of people enjoy watching Game of Thrones. For some reason we haven't got on that bandwagon. Its good to hear you are enjoying it though. I also think it is neat that there are ways for you to catch up and binge on the show until you are where everyone else is :) Enjoy!

  5. I love that series... have you seen the episode when the sword is stuck in the rock and only one person can pull it out? Oups, I think I have the wrong show! LOL

How can you watch only 2 episodes? How can you have so much self-control? Where do you watch it (it's not on Netflix)?

    1. The only self control is that my husband has to wake up for work in the morning. But the weekend is coming, so you just don't know what will happen! Last night we watch two episodes. We are getting more and more hooked!

  8. A lot of things GOT newbies won't realize but part of this stems from the books and the TV show does screw a little with the history

Robert Baratheon's maternal grandmother was a Targaryen. Giving him some legitimacy to the Iron Throne even though he really won it by conquest.

Robert and Eddard were both raised as wards to Jon Arryn of the Vale (the guy who dies before the first episode starts who was the hand of the king). That's why Robert and Eddard consider themselves almost like brothers even though they're not related.

Theon Greyjoy's father rebelled against King Robert shortly in his reign. They crushed the rebellion and made Balon Greyjoy bend the knee. Theon was taken to be Eddard's ward though he is also a hostage to ensure Balon's "loyalty".

Targaryens were well known for the marrying of brother and sister to ensure bloodlines were kept pure. One king Aegon V tried to the stop the practice but his two successors carried on the tradition. Dany's parents were brother and sister, along with her grandparents. Her great-grandfather Aegon V married a woman not related to him.

    1. So many interesting stories in this TV show. I hope to read the books at some point. My daughter, who has them, offered them to me. I've decided to borrow the first and second ones and start with that. I think we're going to really enjoy this TV series; it's completely different from anything we've watched before. And I think that's what we were looking for!

  10. I haven't seen any of it as I watch so little TV...but I know a number of my friends are huge fans. Perhaps at some point I will watch a few and get hooked too.

    1. Cheryl, I just about never EVER watch live TV. I prefer to tape something and get to it whenever I feel like it. The thought of committing myself to a time bothers me. It's like I rebel against it :) And the amount of time we do spend in front of the TV is very little. I prefer to keep busy with other things, and whenever possible, I prefer to be outside!

  11. I always call ROGERS in the early Fall and ask what is free!
The first time I did that, we watched The Knick on HBO...OMG!!! Love this show!
So...anyways...last Fall I called again, as we wanted to watch the new season of The Knick!
My son and one daughter had raved about Game Of Thrones...and they were re-running all of the seasons, so we set our trusty PVR, and started recording...some nights we would watch 3 episodes of GOT!!! I was glad I had PVR'd, as I could fast forward thru the "Naughty" bits...I have always been a real prude about such things...hahaha! I will call again early Fall, and get it free again for a few months! Gosh this turned into a small book here! Enjoy the show!! Catch The Knick if you can...LOVE Clive Owens!!
    Cheers!
    Linda :o)
ps...how are you watching it, as Adam asked...

  14. I love love love this show. I read all the books first, but this season is past the books so for once I don't know what is going to happen next! My husband used to watch with me but gave up halfway through last season because nothing good ever happens. We just got Foxtel again because its the only way you can watch it in Australia.

  19. I read the first book years ago and I was rather surprised how the main characters was killed so easily left and right. Still, it was an amazing read (which I CANNOT share with my friends, well, because they don't read fantasy).
I don't have HBO so I cannot watch the series. So i watch snippets from youtube so I can compare to the knowledge i have from the books.
