Although I do have pessimistic moments, I tend to go through life with a fairly good level of optimism. This not only helps me cope with stressful situations, it also motivates me and fuels my persistence. Yes, there are bad things in the world going on and life can certainly throw curve balls, but I prefer to invest in the belief that things will turn out okay in the end.
What about you?
I'm a "realistic optimist" so I have a positive outlook while striving not to be naive about how life often really works.
ReplyDeleteThat is a good way to be. I'm very much a realist, too. Sometimes a little more than necessary :)
DeleteI tend to be optimistic, but I'm married to a pessimist so sometimes it is hard to stay positive about some things.
ReplyDeletebetty
Perhaps you balance each other out!
DeleteDear Martha, if there was something lower than a pessimist, that would be me! I see doom everywhere. My husband on the other hand always sees a sunny side. I need positive people around me at all times to bring me up to a positive level.
ReplyDeleteI NEVER would have guessed that about you, Kay! I was sure you were an optimistic person. This is quite a surprise. But I'm glad that you have an optimistic husband that pulls you in the other direction!
DeleteI think I am a pessimist, wish I was an optimist more.
ReplyDeleteI know you've mentioned that you worry, Christine, but you don't strike me as a pessimist. You are so outgoing and active that I imagine you are a very happy person!
DeleteI too try to look at the possitive side of things. But too often when tragedy strikes close to home, I get lost for words.
ReplyDeleteLisa
Sometimes bad news gets us down but the world is still filled with more good people!
DeleteHmm. I'm a realist who probably leans toward the pessimistic side. ~ Sharon
ReplyDeleteCome over to the optimistic side, Sharon! It's much more fun :)
DeleteI am sure you won't be surprised to know I am an optimist. I'm not even a "realistic" optimist...I am a "I believe in fairy tales" optimist. I believe everything has a way of working out. Honestly, even if things don't work out the way I want or expect...then I think that there is a reason it worked out like it did. TOTALLY buy into "if one door closes" another one opens."
ReplyDeleteI like the term realistic optimist! good one!
DeleteI love that attitude, Cheryl! I've gone through my life like that and even went through a period of spiritual discovery and believing in soul mates and all that stuff. Well, guess what? I met 'the one' :)
DeleteRealistic optimist! Yes, I like that term, too!
DeleteI'm not sure what I am anymore. I was an optimist but with everything that is going on in the world, I find myself feeling more or less in the middle.
ReplyDeleteThe news can do that to us. We get beaten down by it. I like to step away from that when it becomes too much and detach from it. Sometimes we need to just be surrounded by happiness.
DeleteI'm the eternal optimist, optimistic to a fault.
ReplyDeleteI am optimistic
DeleteRed, I'm not surprised! I would have guessed that about you!
DeleteAnd you, too, shortybear! I've gotten the impression that you are an optimist!
DeleteHey Martha,
ReplyDeleteI think you have a nice balance. Life is about choices. I do my best to live life with realistic optimism rather than negative speculation. Visualisation of that moment when what can seem to be a negative turns into a positive.
Thank you, Martha.
Gary
I'm glad to hear that, Gary. I believe that if we can keep a little bit of an optimistic outlook, it provides us with the motivation and hope we sometimes need.
DeleteI'm try to stay optimistic
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear that, Adam!
DeleteI chose at a very young age to live my life optimistically. I gotten a lot of weird looks at times but I persist to make the best of it.
ReplyDeleteGood for you, Jim! I bet that attitude has served you well.
DeleteMy glass is always half full and not half empty.
ReplyDeleteI always think positively ...
All the best Jan
That is wonderful, Jan! It's a good attitude to have.
DeleteI am possitive in that, if I have a problem (like my horrible health issues), then I puzzle it out until I get where I want to be. So I don't think good or bad, I think, okay, what do I need to do to get this shit done?
ReplyDeleteThen I get this shit done :)
That is a great way to be. You try to find solutions to your problems and don't give up. Very cool.
DeleteWell, as I saw it, I could keep getting sicker or I could work on the root cause.
DeleteI honestly cannot answer this question.
ReplyDeletePerhaps you're between the two?
