Fill In The Blank

A cardinal sitting on our windowsill and singing its little heart out made me smile yesterday.

This has been going on for days now. This adorable cardinal has been hanging around our backyard, sitting on our windowsills, our deck, the trees, flying around the yard and singing joyfully throughout the day. We figure it either has a nest nearby or is from a nest nearby. Whatever the reason, we are thrilled at his presence and the entertainment he provides with his lovely song!

Your turn.

  1. Wow, Martha ... so many things make me smile ... I guess I'm a smiley person!
I always find it's the simple things in life, like waking up to a beautiful sunny day, or just yesterday evening sitting quietly with the sunshine dappling through the window, it was so peaceful

    All the best Jan

  2. What a wonderful treat to get to listen to a cardinal! Yesterday I smiled when someone mentioned one of my all-time-favorite authors, Frederic Bastiat. I'm sure I smiled at many other things as well, but somehow yesterday seems so very long ago! Did I smile at the cupcakes in Miniaturoplis yesterday? I think so...though I better check! It could have been this morning! :) I know this post made me smile. Have a wonderful evening, Martha!

  4. That's quite a challenge. We should think more often about smiles. I watched two squirrels and a magpie chase each other. At times you didn't know who was chasing who.

  11. A magnificent Swainson's hawk made me smile yesterday ~ smile in delight and awe. It was calling in shrill cries which is what drew me outside to see what was going on. I had never heard such cries before! It perched on my neighbor's patio roof nearby, and I managed to get a few good shots in. I heard it during the night, and there were more cries today. I spotted a second, smaller Swanson's hawk. So there are two! Why they are flying and shrieking around my close neighborhood is a mystery to me ~ but what a wonderful thing to see them!

    1. That is an incredible sight, Louise! I am so fascinated by these birds. We've had visits from hawks on a few occasions. We even had an eagle swoop across our yard once. It was the most amazing thing to witness.

    1. I made a mistake. That was the Thursday but the same thing for Friday as well. Just things get done faster. Whoosh.

      How went your weekend?

    2. Cool beans no matter what day it is. The weekend was a little quiet. We did get out both days but didn't get much done around here. Sometimes you need lazy days like that.

    3. Agreed.

Today, I didn't do house stuff instead, I baked bagels and onion crackers. If you lived closer, I would have taken a big plateful of both to your house.

    4. That would be awesome. I can only image how many goodies are at your home...daily. Yesterday I made Jan's lemon chicken that she shared. It. Was. So. Good. Today I volunteered and we had pizza when I got home. Tomorrow I'm going to make a cheese and herb frittata. I've got a hold bunch of eggs that I need to do something with. So that'll be it.

    5. Very cool.

Jan has lots and lots of neat stuff on her site but my belly cannot handle all the meat and cheese. I can't even eat chicken barely at all anymore. Tim's belly would love those dishes. He's Caveman Grunt.

Though lately, Tim's been trying all kinds of veggies which is wonderful fun. We go to the Farmer's Market and he picks veggies out with me. So fun.

    6. George is the caveman eater, too, but since I do the cooking, he oftentimes gets to eat veggies :)

    7. Tim has been enjoying all these wonderful veggies and it's been great. He'll do entire plant-based meals with me. Love that man.

    8. Because you're a great cook. And I think it's all about taste. I've made things that George would swear he wouldn't eat and he ends up really loving it. I should get me a "kiss the cook" apron :)
