Question Of The Day

Empathy

I think it would solve a lot of the world's problems.

Your turn.

  1. Yes empathy and along those lines compassion as well.

  2. Agree about the empathy, however, I think cultivating critical thinking skills and commonsense are also important. Dumb is dumb whether one is nice or not and in many cases dumbs also dangerous.

  3. Humility. The world could do with a lot fewer arrogant assholes running around. *cough* Trump *cough*

  4. This is a really good question. Thought provoking. All the other comments were great words too.

The first thing that popped into my mind was kindness. I think if we treated each other like we would want to be treated,it would just be a kinder world.

    1. Kindness is the most wonderful thing, Betty. If only we were all that way with everyone.

  5. Can't think of anything better than empathy, although self-love is good to have too <3

  6. I am going with kindness too. But compassion, humility and a gentle spirit are all important.

  7. Kindness! yes, close to empathy. Kindness negates a lot of other baddies.

  8. I was reading somewhere (New Scientist?) that too much empathy - where you almost feel another person's pain - is actually a bad thing these days when we are constantly bombarded by news of tragedies. We can't cope with that constant stress. But compassion and kindness, yes.

    1. That is interesting. But if we all had a good level of empathy, perhaps there wouldn't be any more bad news to stress us :)

    2. And wishful thinking, Natalie! :) If only it was that simple to make this a better world!

  9. I don't think I could narrow it down to the MOST important. I think there are some equally important traits that all decent human beings have. Integrity, kindness, and compassion seem to be equally important.

    1. It is very hard to narrow down. I think a combination of some really good traits is the answer to a better person and in turn a better world.

  10. Perhaps just one thing is not enough ... empathy is good, but so too are the three things that Cheryl mentioned integrity, kindness and compassion.

I do hope your weekend has been a good one. I can't believe we are half way through August!

    All the best Jan

    1. So many good traits, Jan. And when you put them all together the results are wonderful!

It is very hard to believe that we're halfway through August. How did this happen? LOL...

  11. what a wise question dear,

i think one MUST HAVE THE QUALITY OF REPLACING OTHERS i know that it needs lots of sensitivity but trust me if we have this one in our nature world will be the heaven because when you will replace others and bear their pain you will obviously help them to get rid of it and will not dare to hurt anyone
