Question Of The Day

...a container of mixed nuts. At a ridiculously high price.

Here's the story:

Yesterday evening our doorbell rang and when I opened the door a young girl was standing there with a box full of containers of mixed nuts. She was a first-year engineering student, she told me, at our local university and she was going door to door fundraising. I also learned that she's not from around here; her hometown is almost three hours away. She was sweet and adorable and very polite. I would have said "no, thank you" if she didn't remind me so much of my daughter who is attending university in another city. And so I caved. I'm such a sap.

Your turn.

  1. The last (non-grocery-related) thing I bought was a new spring/fall jacket. On clearance! 60% off, woo hoo!

  2. A new fan. Unfortunately the way I've been lately, I think I'll be running that thing all through winter. Sigh.

    1. Is it hot where you are? It's been hot and ridiculously humid here for so many weeks now that we are sick of it!

    2. Yes, hot AND humid. Supposedly it's going to break tomorrow. I'll believe it when I feel it.

    3. Same here! But last night it was very cool, so I think we're finally going to enjoy some nice weather. I hope it's the same for you.

An Ebook, though I swore I wouldn't buy any until I read all the other ones I have, LOL :)

    Happy weekend!

  8. Just last night, we bought two new mobile tablet-like phones for a KILLER sale price, plus they tossed in free cases AND, when I went in I asked to have the activation fees waived and they said YES!

I am blown away by these deals we got. We waiting awhile to pull this trigger and now, we are loving our new toys. I never had bubble text messages before. Never could listen to music on the phone either. But ... the real reason for my phone ...

    INSTAGRAM & YOUFLIPPIN'TUBE.

    Yeah, baby.

    2. I sure will. And I forgot to tell you, we paid for the phones with the guitars that we sold back in May. We got 200 for those.

  9. Heh, you are a nice person. I hope those nuts are good. Your story made me smile.

The last thing I paid for was 21 cents postage due on a letter I mailed without realizing it was too heavy for the stamp I used. And before that...I paid for a tooth-filling.

  13. A cabin in the woods of Pine, Arizona! Just bought it late this afternoon! We are very excited after 35 years in Phoenix in summer to be able to go 2 hours drive to the higher elevations in Arizona during the hot summer and get cool!

  15. Two fake black Sharpie markers and two packs of "velvet" covered hangers at Dollerama. My husband has a tendency to take pens / markers out to his shop and they stay out there. I bought him his own with the hopes that I will be able to locate mine when I need them. The hangers are the best because shirts don't slip off them. That was nice that you bought the nuts. I've never heard of nuts being used for fund raising. Usually it's chocolate bars. -Jenn

    1. Velvet hangers are great for that! I should pick some up.

I'd never seen this type of fundraiser either. Always a first time for everything!

  16. I can't say no to any child that comes to my door with a fundraiser. Even if it's something I can't use, I will buy it and give it to someone else. The one exception would be magazine subscriptions but most children don't ever try selling those any more.

The last non-grocery item I bought was a picture frame on Saturday. I had a print that needed framed and thought I would try a store bought one before resorting to custom framing.
