September

Happy new month, everyone! September has arrived. Absolutely insane. I blinked a couple of times in April and WHOOSH here we are. Any day now we should start seeing Christmas decorations at the stores. I'm kidding. Or I hope I am.

Autumn is on its way. Do you like this time of year? I love it. Pumpkins, apples, nice weather...so many things to enjoy. And the beginning of a new school year! Oh, how I loved that when I was a kid. It was so exciting getting back to school and meeting up with friends. This time of year brings all that to mind. It also brings to mind all the priceless memories of my own two girls starting their first day of class around this time. Ooop...there it is again...my heart being squeezed.

The photo above was taken in 2002. My younger daughter on the left, Alexandra (Allie, Alex) was starting her first day of kindergarten and my older daughter on the right, Marie Amanda (Maria, Marie) was starting fifth grade. Fast forward to today and little sister is beginning her second year of university and living in Ottawa with 4 other students. Big sister has graduated from university, is working full time and lives with her boyfriend...and three cats! When did this all happen? HOLY MOLY...time flies.

What about you? Do you have any thoughts, memories, feelings about this month/time of year? Please share below. I'd love to read all about them.

Here's a song that instantly comes to mind when thinking of September:

Wishing you all a great month ahead!

  2. I like the beginning of all the seasons, but by the time they end, I'm ready for the next one. I just hope this fall has some fall weather. Last fall was way too warm.

  3. back to school is strange this year as both my kids are no longer in any kind of school. It's another stage of life, a bit unsettling.

Here it is the start of spring and the kids are halfway through the school year (starts Jan/Feb) so it doesn't have the same associations for me.

  5. Earth Wind and Fire is one of my husband's favourite bands. He LOVES that song.(I do too, but for him it's extreme). I love September, but I would like it to stay Septemberish for a few months rather than move into winter. We always took first day of school pictures with our two as well. -Jenn

  6. One of my favourite months! I look forward for the temperature to change and the air is fresh once again.
And....having been a teacher for 30 years I remember that feeling in the gut.....the same I had as a student. Not necessarily a bad feeling but one filled with anticipation.
Good bye summer/heat/humidity and BUGS!!! Hello fall!

  8. You blink and they grow up. I have spent so much time thinking this year where did the time go? One piece of advice I try to tell new moms is not to rush things with their babies. I would go back to those times if I could. I hope September is a great month for you! I put on Facebook last night that I better not see Christmas decorations at the store this weekend.

    1. I tell them the same thing, Betty; to enjoy every single day, every minute, because it goes by so quickly and WHOOSH...before you know it, they're all grown up.

  9. I love the Fall. The mild weather, colors exploding,...all of it. Here in Kansas it's nice to be finally past the extreme heat of the summer and now our gardens will start reviving with a secondary blooming of a lot of flowers. (well at least the ones that survived the heat). I am not sure if I will be going but there are a lot of apple orchards and pumpkin patches here that host fall activities. OH..and the Renaissance Faire has started. It's pretty fun to watch all the people that get into costume and get really ensconced in the role playing of that. I typically go out for the food and people watching. No costume for this fair maiden.

That is a really sweet picture of your girls. Time does have a way of flashing forward so quickly it's nearly unbelievable that our children could of grown up in the blink of an eye.

    1. Those fall festivals are so much fun! A lot of good things to look forward to. I get quite overwhelmed this time of year. It seems to spark many good memories. And I'm glad to be done with all the heat, too. It was a very hot summer this year.

  10. Since I grew up on a farm in Saskatchewan my memories of sept are about harvest. Lots of good smells and dust. Machines. Long work days. Layovers with rain. On those odd rainy days I went to school.

  13. I always took university students away on a week long field course starting on the first day of school, leaving my wife and kids to deal with it without me.

  14. I always hated the day before the first day of school. I miss the bliss of summer vacation.

  15. Love the photo of your daughters! I had mixed emotions with the start of every school year. I didn't like summer vacation to be over, but I was excited for school--especially during my high school years when I got to organize most of my own curriculum!

    1. It is sad when summer comes to an end, isn't it? But school was always great. I loved it. And if I could go back and do it all over again, I would. Organizing your own curriculum sounds wonderful!
