I am so excited. You know why? Because starting today, the entire month will be dedicated to holiday posts. That's right...blog post after blog post of festive fun!
Christmas has always been my favourite time of year. Not because of all the commercialism but because of the people I share with it who make it magical. I have decades and decades worth of wonderful memories because of these amazing people.
December for me is a month of celebrations and joy and singing and togetherness and treats and bright colours and family and smiles and giving and hope and a whole bunch of good things. Of course (and unfortunately), it's also the start of this:
I don't subscribe to that and so:
And everything else not included above.
All this divisive nonsense will end when we start to focus more on what we have in common. Which brings me to the video below. I don't often share advertisements but this one is just too good not to. There is a strong message here.
So the floodgates have been opened and the holiday madness begins! Don't say I didn't warn you...
Happy Thursday and happy December!
Great post Martha! Happy Christmas!!!! :0)
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteOh, I just caught the very tail end of that commercial on TV last night (when they were kneeling down) and wondered what the prelude to it was -- now I know, thanks to you! It's a delightful commercial focusing on what people share, not on their differences.
ReplyDeleteIt's not often I like commercials but this one is great!
DeleteWonderful post. I saw that ad just yesterday - it's a winner.
ReplyDeleteIt sure is!
DeleteYup I agree - you can wish me well with any holiday of your choosing!
ReplyDeleteThat's great, Linda! Why stress over nonsense?
DeleteI look forward to your Christmas postings this month! I love your new blog header look! That was a great commercial to watch. I hadn't seen it yet on TV :)
ReplyDeletebetty
I like to make this month fun. It's a nice way to end the year!
DeleteVery cool! I look forward to your posts! :)
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoy them!
DeleteLove that video Martha, will look forward to your Xmas posts!
ReplyDeleteIt's such a great ad, isn't it? I love it.
DeleteJust don't forget the reason for the season.
ReplyDeleteShameless American capitalism....I mean ancient pagan traditions..... umm....Jesus?
If only Christmas was named after a pagan deity like Easter is. Maybe those anti-starbucks people would understand. Eh probably not
Well, at least it's a lot of publicity for Starbucks! It doesn't seem to damage their business :)
DeleteMerry Christmas Martha!
ReplyDeleteCheers!
Linda :o)
I bet you like Christmas just as much as I do, Linda!
DeleteGreat new header. I almost missed it. christmas has changed and so have I . I look forward to all your posts.
ReplyDeleteI think we all change over time! Hopefully we get a little wiser :)
DeleteI really like the new header! It reminds me of a childhood book. It certainly is a month of endless rushing around and doing things, but lovely as well. Looking forward to your posts. -Jenn
ReplyDeleteIt can be quite stressful. But for the most part, it's great!
DeleteI wish you a joyous month!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I hope it's a nice one for you :)
DeleteI don't care what people say either. Really, there are just more pressing issues in my day than if someone says happy, merry or fuck all. I just don't care.
ReplyDeleteI know, right? I can't understand what the big deal is!
DeleteYes December is here, wishing you a happy month.
ReplyDeleteLove your header
All the best Jan
Thanks, Jan! I hope it's a great one for you :)
DeleteThat commercial is adorable! I'm glad you shared it. I have worked at Macy's twice in my life--the first time was during my first year of college (I was the switchboard operator) and the second time was about eight years ago when I was a cashier in sportswear. In 1978, I was told to answer the phone by saying, Happy Holidays, this is Macy's. In 2008, we were told that when we handed packages to our customers, we could say Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays or whatever we felt comfortable with saying. So much for the so-called war on Christmas. It doesn't exist. I usually said Merry Christmas, but I also sometimes said, May peace be with you.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Thanks for sharing that, Janie! I personally have never had any trouble anywhere, nor have I see people complaining. Most people are courteous with one another and don't waste time and energy on issues that don't really exist. I do see some Facebook friends posting images with the 'no one's going to tell me what to say about my Christmas' type of thing. I think it's silly and unnecessary and as much as I'd love to comment with "chill out..." I shake my head and move on.
DeleteLOVE this post!!!! I, too embrace any greeting at this time of year and appreciate someone is extending me a greeting.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely commercial. There are several this year that bring tears to my eyes.
I'm not a big fan of commercials, but some of them are just so amazing.
DeleteYour new header looks nice. Good point that people shouldn't be offended by being wished well. I think a little thicker skin would help everybody.
ReplyDeleteI think so, too, Bethany. It's nice to be wished well and a simple 'thank you' will do :)
DeleteOh my goodness, just now I FINALLY got to watch that Amazon commercial video and it brought tears to my eyes. So glad you shared that, thank you!
ReplyDeleteIt's a really good one. Thanks for watching, Hannah!
