This Week

You know it’s been a long time since a place got a good cleaning when you use a product that can strip the very soul out of you and it still takes added effort to declare an area dirt free. I recently scrubbed and painted and organized our bedroom closet, our office closet and our pantry, all three a pain in the ass. Then a couple of days ago, the most amazing man in the world and I thoroughly cleaned our kitchen from ceiling to floor. Yesterday we began painting it. Today we continue. Can you say tired? That’s what defines this week.

Yesterday I realized that for an area with only 47,000 residents, our small city seems to have a lot of restaurants. Do people go out to eat a lot here? I don’t know. But they’d have to for all these places to stay in business. I personally prefer to eat homemade food but an occasional outing is fun. Although it’s always a challenge to find something reasonably healthy on most menus and something that doesn’t add up to a gazillion calories or have a truckload of sugar and/or salt in it.

According to the weather forecast, we are expecting some snow today. BOO. HISS. March is leaving the same way it came in: like a lion. It’s been a crappy month. I hope April is in a better mood.

There have been a lot of interesting questions asked in this year’s "Ask Me Anything” post. I’ll start putting together some answers sometime in April. I apologize for the delay but, you know, house stuff. And life. In the meantime, if you have anything to ask, there’s still time.

My blog was recently ditched (unfollowed) from a fellow blogger that I really liked. And who I thought really liked me. I guess I was wrong. She also ditched my Instagram account, so she really wants to have nothing to do with me. Has that ever happened to you? You feel like you've made a connection with someone and realize it's only been one-sided. Oh well, that's the blogging world for you. I wish her well either way.

That’s all for now. I hope everyone has a wonderful - snow-free - weekend.

  1. Crappy here too Martha!!
"OUCH" on the unfollowing thing...not sure I would know if somebody ditched me!!
I love your blog...and your IG...keep doing what you are doing ♥️
Here's to a brighter drier warmer APRIL!!
    Cheers!

    1. Thanks, Linda. You are the best. I don't notice if someone ditches me unless it's someone that I had a closer connection with. In this case I thought "I haven't heard from so-and-so for a while. I wonder what's up with her." I went to check her Instagram account and that's when I realized I was ditched. Came back to my blog to check my followers to see if she'd left here, too, and she had. It was a little surprising but what can you do? Onwards and upwards, as they say.

  2. My town is littered with restaurants, it's quite amazing. One of the few areas of business that can't be hurt by the digital age except bad reviews of course.

    1. So true, Adam. You still have to get out there if you want to eat at a restaurant. There's no app for that :)

  3. Lousy weather here too, but at least it is all rain. You'll soon have your home sparkling and painted just the way you want it and all the hard work will be worth it. There are so many restaurants in Belleville I wonder how they all survive, and then there is how many Tim Horton's there are. Well, if they were depending on us to keep going they would all be closed by now.

    1. Same here, Linda. I don't mind going out once in a while but I prefer homemade, healthy food. Going out is a treat, not a regular habit. Let's hope April is much kinder to us. We are so in need of nice weather!

  4. OH MY GOSH!! I love that Canada meme ;)

Honestly, we eat out a ton. Love mexican food that just cannot seem to be replicated in my kitchen. Our little town does not have a ton a great restaurants but it does have a few really good ones that I don't mind returning to again and again.

    Hope your weather improves soon♥

    1. We end up with a handful of favourite restaurants that we keep returning, too. Once you find a good one, why mess with that?!

  5. You sure have had to do a lot of cleaning, I can't wait to see how everything looks when you are done painting and settled in. We only have 10,000 people in my town and 5 pizza places, 3 Chinese restaurants, McD's, 2 diners, 3 nice dinner places, Subway and 2 Dunkin Donuts, I always wonder how they all stay in business.I know how you feel about losing a reader that you thought was a friend, I even feel bad when someone that never commented unsubscribes. It is hard not to take it personally, but I know you would never have had anything that offended someone so it is obviously them and not you. Have a nice weekend!

    1. Wow, that's a lot of places for that population. It is amazing how they stay in business, isn't it?

Thanks for your kind words. It is sad to lose blogging pals but that's how it goes. I just hope she's doing well and not dealing with any major problems.

  6. My mom and her friends eat out a lot (elderly seniors) and I'm sure they keep some of the restaurants here in business. Maybe there are a lot of seniors in your new hometown! Love the funnies - thanks for the smiles. As for the unfollow - sounds a bit strange, but maybe it was accidental? Or maybe they had to pare back their reading unexpectedly due to circumstances in their life? I dunno. It leaves a bit of a bruise if you don't have an explanation.

    1. I think we do have quite a few seniors here and perhaps they are helping keep these places in business.

As for the unfollow, I don't think it was by accident. But I don't know the circumstances either. Perhaps she is cutting back on blogs and other social media sites or perhaps she simply wants to cut ties with some people. Whatever the reason, I don't mind. I'll just miss her presence.

  7. Cleaning and organizing and painting and blogging...you are a super hero Martha!!! You should borrow Wonder Woman's outfit :)
I guess there are some that decide to unfollow a blog for reasons that we will never know. I have been following you for a while already and I haven't seen that you have done anything wrong. Maybe this person is having some issues at home or just trying to cutback in blog-world. We all seem to be short on time these days. I hope that whoever they are that it is nothing serious~

    Hugs~

  8. People dump me all the time--on the blog and in person. I'm pretty abrasive and rude, I guess. But not continuing to follow a Canadian? That I don't understand. Reading about everything you've accomplished exhausts me, but I'm not going to ding-dong ditch you.

    Love,

  11. I am far too sensitive and my feelings get hurt even in Blogland. (The reason for my last break.) Because of that I don't keep track of who follows me. I have a blogroll but don't have any idea who follows me.
We don't go out for meals very often. It is so expensive! It is so frustrating to get a bill for $50.00 plus tip. We always tip. We can eat the same thing at home for under $10.00 at the most.

  12. You did seem like you got a lot of work done!! Bet everything is looking really good though with what you have done and you are settling in nicely! People are so strange on social media. I can never figure out why they do the things they do. Is your town considered a tourist attraction? If so, that could be the reason for a lot of restaurants.

    1. Every space that's completed looks so clean and beautiful. But it's a very slow process. It's hard to do all this work and we are making sure we take breaks along the way. We don't want to burn out.

Our area is not a tourist attraction, so it's the locals that must be keeping these restaurants alive!

i can imagine how tired one can be when you have to declare your newly bought house dirt free, now i am rethinking about my opinion for buying a already build house in Islamabad instead of going under the long painful process of supervising the construction of new house . reading you making me feel that buying new house which other left after using long time is quite hard to settle .

hope you feel better soon my friend and please follow your 'break' method it refreshes you .
we too find occasionally out fun due to have sensitive stomach it make us do and we like it this way either.
After more than one year's inevitable break when i started blogging again i visited my old fellows many times but strangely they did not respond .many of them were off but few who were on also remained silent .
then gradually i felt that my followers are leaving i don't know if they are the same but i think they are ,this is rude but it is okay .God blessed me with many more good friends like you though i feel sorry for such way of thinking.
    Blessing dear friend!

But sometimes people just want to cut ties and move on. That's okay, too. I will miss them but I do wish them well.

Building a new home is fun but it's also a lot of work. Remodeling/renovating an older home is also a lot of work. No matter what you do, there's work involved! :)

  17. So much for people leaving their homes clean when they sell. I know she was a senior who lived there for years but I am sure she had family (?). You and TMAMITW can start up a 'Molly Aids' business and make a fortune!!
I would have to agree with a few of your followers' comments, Martha, that the person who unfollowed you may be having problems in her life right now.....we never really 'know' the people that follow us here in the blogishere/Instagram/FB. She may provide an explanation in the future.....and maybe not.
    Have a great weekend, Martha.

I totally agree with my blogging pals that this woman has her own things to deal with. She is a lovely person and I wish her well. Life goes on and so do we.

  18. House cleaning is the devil's work and though I used to get satisfaction from cleaning every nook and cranny ~ not so much now. Cheers to you for attempting and "the most amazing man in the world" well what a can I say!!
Blogging is in it's infancy and social media is like the wild west, so we all have to take this new world with a grain of the proverbial salt. I'm finding that peeps are attracted to like minded peeps (in some form or other). If for some reason the wrong foot was brought forward firstly, then the path can become one sided without anyone being the wiser.
    Some peeps are weary
    Some peeps are stalkers
    Some peeps are tired
    Some peeps need a reboot
I for one have pulled way back because I needed to attend to myself rather than someone else.
Afterall, yourself is what makes your world go 'round.
Now Cornwall it's time to Martharize this place!

    1. Blogging is really fascinating. People come and people go. Blogs go up and blogs go down. I've met some amazing people along the way (like you!) and some of them are still a part of my social circle. Others have cut ties and moved on. Some have left and then returned. It's an amazing thing this blogging! And I love every part of it.

  19. I'm a bit envious of your restaurants, Martha. Our closest little town is lacking in places to eat, especially diverse places. Because of that, we don't really eat out very much. Maybe your (un)follower is just doing away with social media. Sometimes people just don't want to "do" facebook, Instagram, etc. anymore for a variety of reasons.
Every time I read about how much cleaning you are doing I feel a twinge of "I should really be cleaning something", but then it passes! ;) -Jenn

  20. You and your amazing man are just plain impressive with all the cleaning and painting you are doing. I feel fatigued just reading about it.

That cartoon about Canadian Spring is just a riot.

As for the "unfollowing". I have had my heart broken so many times when I notice people "unfollowing" The problem is that you don't know if they are just discontinuing all blogs, have to thin down the herd or if I did or said something offensive to them. Try as I might, I try to encourage new readers and keep the ones I have but that doesn't seem to go according to my plan.

As for your encounter, I think that is a little bit of overreacting. Some people are just too sensitive. You're such a nice person and I can't imagine you ever deliberately upsetting someone. And it was nice that you explained the situation to her. Oh well, her loss...
