Happy Saturday to all. I hope this week has been good to you, and if it hasn’t, I hope the weekend is kinder. What’s new with you? Seen any good movies lately? Read any fascinating books? Done anything fun and exciting? Gone anywhere interesting or unusual? Do tell in the comments below. Inquiring minds want to know.
As for me...
Yesterday I did ab-so-lute-ly nothing. The most amazing man in the world met up with a couple of very old friends in a north eastern area in Quebec and I had the place to myself all day long. I declared it a lazy day and made sure I was as unproductive as I could possibly be. I was very successful at it and gave myself a gold star for effort. Or lack of. Sometimes doing nothing is wonderfully satisfying.
This week I spent a considerable amount of time on one of my favourite online e-commerce site, Well.ca, which I mentioned in an earlier post. It’s a Canadian company that offers more than 40,000 products, including the country’s largest assortment of green and natural and cruelty free brands. I made my first order with them back in May and I can’t tell you how pleased I was with it. Not only did it arrive quickly but everything was packaged securely and with care. There was even a hand written “thank you” message with a smiley face from the individual who put together my order. Love the personal touch. I will continue to order from them as long as this type of exceptional service continues.
On Thursday I stopped in at the Michaels arts and crafts store near our house and guess what I saw there? Halloween decorations. In July. I thought putting them up in late August was bad enough but this takes the cake. No gold star for Michaels. And no gold star for the other stores around town that have had back to school supplies on display since mid July. Because every kid wants to be reminded about school not even halfway through their summer vacation, right? I suspect that Santa should be showing up sometime next month in the stores to promote holiday commercialism. Sheesh.
I’ve been receiving a lot of emails lately telling me that I’m the beneficiary of a huge amount of money. And also emails telling me that there is a shitload of money waiting for me in some overseas bank. All I have to do to receive my inheritance and become filthy rich (14.5 million dollars richer to be exact), is make a small investment and share some information. Like my bank account, phone number, driver’s license information, full address, bank name, age, hair colour, shoe size, blood type and how many times a day I go to the bathroom. Okay, the last four bits of information weren’t requested in the emails. But the silliness fits in perfectly with the stupidity of these messages. Thankfully, they all end up in my spam folder.
Guess what I see outside my window this morning as I type this? Sunshine. And clear blue skies. We had the same kind of day yesterday. And it may continue into tomorrow. HOLYMOLY. Three days in a row of honest to goodness summer weather. With the sun making an appearance. One (or many) of you must have sent this over. It must have cost a fortune in shipping and handling fees to mail in the sun. So, thank you! Of course, there is rain forecast for many of this week’s upcoming days but for now I’ll enjoy these beautiful days.
And that’s it for now, blogging pals. Enjoy the rest of the weekend!
I will have to search for Well.ca and have a look. Thanks for the info. I agree about the commercialisation aspect. When will it ever end ? Assuming it ever does. Glad to see that Canada has some sunshine at last. I just hope we have some sunshine here. It would be nice if we did.
ReplyDeleteAs long as people are buying into it (no pun intended!), the commercialism will keep on keeping on. And maybe even get worse.
DeleteI hope you got your sunshine!
That site is a site I will explore. I found it easily enough. It looks good, but all the prices are in dollars.
ReplyDeleteIt's a Canadian company, so that's about right. I don't think they ship to your area, though! I believe they only ship to Canada and the U.S
DeleteOh my word that last meme of the Meerkats cracked me up, that's me when we get any sun in the Uk which is rare! Today has pissed down with rain all day, as it did yesterday and probably will tomorrow. Next weekend we have a family barbecue and I bet it rains then too.
ReplyDeleteThat would be sad. I hope you get a nice day!
DeleteI saw the meerkats picture as I read the line "Guess what I see outside my window this morning ..." and for a moment there I thought the answer was "meerkats" - lol and yet I know we don't have meerkats running around freely in Canada so then I thought maybe you had a herd of raccoons, or maybe skunks! Never thought about "sun" ... but I'm glad you finally got some.
ReplyDeleteSomedays I really need coffee, and I can't drink it - wah :)
Are you SURE you don't want to answer those emails?? I've been getting some, supposedly from Facebook, to notify me I have unanswered FB messages. Someone must have gotten frustrated with all the people not responding, because the latest one said "your messages will be deleted in a few days idiots" - I laughed and laughed!
Now that I look at it, it does give the impression that I saw meerkats outside my window :) Wouldn't that be something? LOL
DeleteThat is hilarious about the Facebook!
I am glad you got to have a well-deserved lazy day. That sounds like a great website. In defense of Michael's,craft stores are always very early because it takes a long time to make things so they want us thinking about them well ahead of time. Plus I love Halloween so I would never mind seeing that stuff. :)
ReplyDeleteThat is a great argument on their behalf! :)
DeleteLOVE the lemurs!!! I know how they feel! Isn't having the house to yourself a wonderful thing? Watch what you want, eat what you want, do nothing if you want -- ahhhh bliss. -Jenn
ReplyDeleteIt is, Jenn! Sometimes being by yourself is the best thing!
DeleteI finally watched Footloose the 2011 remake with Julianne Hough last night, I enjoyed it, especially the dancing. Maybe I should watch the original Footloose now. It's nice to have a day to yourself every now and then.
ReplyDeleteI haven't watched the 2011 remake. I should look at the trailer and see if it interests me. The original is fun and I've seen it a few times.
DeleteI'm having one of those do nothing days today. Zero motivation, and the weather is actually cool enough to go outside. The past 2-3 months have been brutal here in NJ - it's either raining (4-5x a week) or hot and humid. Glad to hear your weather is improving. Enjoy your weekend!

Thanks, Chris! I hope you had a really nice weekend.
DeleteHi Martha! :) Sunny here too!!! :))) I've been ordering from Well since 2010. Love them. And most of the time if you order more than the free shipping, you get some kind of free sample or another. I once got a googley-eyed smiley face thank you from a "Paul" lol...they do have a special way about them!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on doing nada-day! I feel like today is that day for me because I spent the morning knitting and the afternoon online enjoying the higher internet speed...with the occasional trip to the bar area to adore my Cheddar in the fridge lol...
Besides baking, cheesing, pruning the garden, eating and boozing...life has been the same, nice and quiet! But...it is the weekend, and the loud people have invaded for another weekend! We just finished a tv series called Justified...based in Kentucky about a U.S. Marshall and his doings with the "Dixie Mafia"...it was quite good for the 6 seasons it lasted! We'll be back to movies in bed after dinner from now on...I just downloaded Invasions of the Body Snatchers lol...the 70's AND the original 50's version! I'm sure we'll be watching that this weekend! Enjoy the summer (hope it stays now!!!)
HAHA! I love the way you pamper that cheddar. So cute. You should name it. That would be fun :)
DeleteI really like Well. ca. In addition to their amazing service, they offer so many great products, many of them Canadian brands, which I love! I can't find everything I want at local stores, especially natural and cruelty-free products, so I'm thankful for all these online businesses.
The 50s and 70s versions of the Body Snatchers! What a hoot! I hope you enjoyed both.
If I'm going to eat my cheese, I can't name it lol! I'll get too attached...
DeleteBAHAHAHAHA! That is funny :)
DeleteI visited Calgary and the Glenbow Museum.
ReplyDeleteThat is fun!
DeleteThe kids start school here around the 2nd week of August so the stores have had school supplies since shortly before the 4th of July. It was funny to see the summer clothes, pool toys, etc., on clearance at the end of June when summer had just arrived. I suppose Halloween will be next when they clear back to school. Glad you got to see some sun!
ReplyDeletebetty
Before you know it, stores will be stocking school supplies the day after schools finish :) I think it's all a little silly but that's just my opinion :)
DeleteGlad you got both sun and down time. This week, I'm hoping for countertops and appliances! Raining here today.
ReplyDeleteI hope you did get your countertops and appliances!
DeleteHappy resting .Unlike you when hubby is not at home something keeps poking me until i get up and drag out some due stuff to do .I do it to move my time forward swiftly that's all.
ReplyDeletei fi pic up a good read i won't be available until i am blind or book is finished "my mom"s words" so i keep waiting for the day when i will not be disturbed while reading .
Glad you found great site to shop .
and happy for you that finally you have a real summer days .let me check if i sent you my dear
HAHAHA! I believe that a lot of that sun has come from you, dear friend :) And I am so thankful for it!
DeleteI love an occasional day of doing NOTHING. I just don't want too many of them as then it seems to morph into boring.
ReplyDeleteAs for books, movies and such. I have been reading books non-stop as of late and while I have enjoyed most of them, none of them stood above the crowd as a must read. I am currently starting The Bright Hour. It probably is going to be a tear jerker as it is about a woman that is dying. A lot of the books I have read lately are books about nutrition. I am giving vegetarian eating a trial run. After a little more than a month, there are aspects that I am thoroughly enjoying. To be fair, this hasn't been a huge change as I wasn't much of a meat eater before.
I went to the Well.ca site. I might give them a try. The one down side is the shipping to the US. Not horrible but the order would have to be sizable enough to warrant the shipping costs.
I haven't been to Michaels lately but I am not at all surprised. My husband is working out of town and recently asked me if Hobby Lobby was set up for Christmas yet. Last year they were completely set up in August. I get nearly ill when I see Christmas decorations out before Halloween but it's fairly routine any more.
All those assorted scams about "you've won money" seem to be fairly common. Who falls for those? Someone must or they wouldn't keep showing up, I guess.
Happy to hear about the sunny skies making their appearance. I think your clouds have dipped down here for a bit of a vacation, but why they picked Kansas is up for debate. It had been sunny for weeks but then over the last week we have had clouds and occasional rain.
So nice to see you here, Cheryl! I imagine you've been really busy with your home, too. I hope you continue to visit and I'll have to check out your blog for recent posts.
DeleteHi Martha, you may have noticed that my blog posts and visits have been a little sporadic! July and August are slightly more busy than usual ... but we get there in the end!
ReplyDeleteThese emails telling folks that they are the beneficiary of a huge amount of money seem to be doing the rounds, you just have to be so careful with the internet.
Our weekend was good, can't believe it's the end of July!
Take Care
All the best Jan
I have noticed, Jan, and I totally understand that you are busy. I'm glad you are here, though. Visit whenever you can!
DeleteThey have Halloween stuff at our local one too. I know most of the Halloween stores will open up about in August anyway, they'll be slow as crap but they'll be open
ReplyDeleteIt's a little early, in my opinion, but it's something that happens every year now. Michaels also had some Christmas stuff up, which is kind of crazy!
DeleteGod, I wish we were getting some sun and warmth.
ReplyDeleteAs for the fake email scammers, I've received millions, have been "contacted" by the FBI, and have been told I owe the tax man money.
Meh, whatever!
We get a lot of phone spammers now as well. Ugh! I've taken to swearing at them because they ring several times a day, day after day.
HAHAHA! That is funny about the FBI. I haven't received that one yet. Phone spammers are the worst kind!
