This Week

It’s been quite a rollercoaster of emotions this week. Thankfully, the painful ones we experienced shortly after Nacho’s death have begun to soften. Yesterday we smiled as we shared memories of when we first brought her home at the age of four months and laughed out loud at some of her funny antics over the years. We will always miss her, of course, but at least we’ve stopped being blubbering messes throughout the day. And stopped going through box after box of Kleenex.

You know what we finally did? We joined Netflix at the beginning of the month. I think we are the only ones from almost everyone I know who took this long to sign up. Now I wonder why we hesitated. So. Many. Options. And so much catching up to do. I’m especially loving being able to select a movie at the click of a button. We recently watched “Hidden Figures”. Such a great film. Such incredible women. Have you seen the film? What did you think about it? All that racism and sexism was really frustrating.

I am enjoying my spiritual journey. I’m reading and learning about tarot cards, so I haven’t used my new deck yet since I’m not quite ready. There is no need to rush. But the oracle cards have been a daily meditation that has not only been inspiring but also very helpful. I’ve picked up two sets and there are a few others I’d like to get. YouTube videos have been especially helpful in getting a glimpse at cards to help with the decision. They’re also the reason my Amazon wish list keeps growing. Do you use oracle or tarot cards? Do you have any favourites? Oh, and another thing I want to treat myself to in the near future is a chakra bracelet. They are really beautiful.

Drawings. I have some to share. None of them were done this week but that doesn’t really matter, does it? Of course not. Here they are:

And my first attempt at Simon’s cat:

This week also included a few days off the internet, which was a great contributor to the healing process. You know what else was great about being off the internet? Being totally disconnected. Not having a single clue about what was going on in the world, and especially not being constantly bombarded by news about the same annoying people (I won’t name names or point fingers no matter how tempting) and all the ridiculous things they say, was wonderful.

And that’s it for this week. It’s been a tough one, for sure, but things are getting better. One day at a time.

A happy weekend to all!

Yeppers, quiet time away from Internet is what I do.
I have to because I love the quiet and the alone and
I have things I want to create away from this space.

Very sorry again that you lost little Nacho.

Cool beans on the cards, they are great fun to read.
Looking forward to reading more about your adventures.

In other news, burr on the ice coming.
    PS: Great drawings!

    1. PS: We are NetFlix heads as well
as Amazon Prime and now Hulu.
We don't have cable or TV.

    2. It's a winter mess around here. How about you? It snowed all day yesterday and we have more than our fair share of the white stuff. Spring won't come too soon!

We got rid of our cable in 2016. It was crap most of the time and not worth the money. We'll continue to subscribe to Netflix until or if there's nothing interesting to watch on it. We'll see how it goes. I've heard of Amazon Prime and Hulu but I haven't checked those out yet.

How are you feeling? Are you fully recovered? Hope you've had a fun weekend so far. Sorry about not being able to go to the restaurant store. I hope you get another chance soon.

    3. Colds gone. We lost our furnace on xmas eve.
It was sooo cold in here. Warmer in the fridge.
But all fixed. Colds gone too. Thanks!

Winter has been weird. We get the ice and snow
but lots and lots and lots of sunshine.

Our springs are not real springs.
We get snow, rain and mud.
But it's still my new year,
      so I'll happily take it.

We were able to hit the restaurant
store - but icy on the ride home.

And that's all that's fit to print!

    4. PS: When I met Tim he didn't have TV
and neither did I. I took that as good sign!

    5. That is cool about the TV. What a coincidence that you both didn't have one. Or maybe not a coincidence :)

  3. I don't tend to use oracle cards because I read tarot. I first learned how to read tarot 25 years ago and I've been an avid student of the cards ever since! Have fun, Martha, it's fascinating!

    1. I am loving every moment of it. When I got my tarot set I wanted to just jump right in and read what each card is. The author of the set, though, has a step by step plan in her book and I've decided to follow that. I'd like to really understand all of it and take my time doing so!

  4. Hi Martha :)
I'm so happy you're doing better!! :) That Chakra bracelet is beautiful, now I want one lol...actually I've been working on my Chakras lately, especially my throat Chakra. I'll probably do a post about it sometime soon, I find it's so important to get your energy flowing through your body.

Well, as you know I love my Animal Spirit Guides deck!! And the one Alex got me, the Celtic Tree Oracle. My favourite tarot is the Fairy Tale Tarot. I never thought of You Tube to look at the cards, what a great idea. I try to find images to help me see if I can connect to them or not!

I love the first drawing! So cute!! And your dream catcher...do you have one? I used to but have no clue what happened to it.

We gave up Netflix last year. I think we watched everything that we liked on there that they had to offer and got a bit bored. Now I'm eyeing a new site called Shudder. You can imagine, lol...it's a horror type of Netflix. But for now they don't have too many interesting options. I wish our CRTC would get with it and let us see more stuff! The U.S. versions have so many more interesting options!

    1. I love those chakra bracelets. I'm surprised I haven't picked one up in all these years, especially during my first big spiritual journey when I was in my early 30s. I learned about them back then, along with so many other things. It was the most incredible period. Now I'm focusing on learning about tarot and oracle cards, and a bunch of other things. It's all so interesting.

I don't have a dream catcher now but I did in the past for many years, and so did my girls when they were kids. I'm going to have to pick up another one of these days. They are effective and very beautiful, too.

A horror type Netflix! Holy moly! That is fun. Although I'd be watching alone. My husband is not a big fan of horror movies like I am. But sometimes he sits and watches with me just to please me. Now that's love :)

Things are much better now. I have accepted what has happened and I'm working on honouring and appreciating the good times we had with that little soul. She was amazingly special and she'll always take up a space in our hearts.

  5. I do love Netflix. My husband watches TV but I mostly just watch Netflix. No commercials!

  6. Darn!!! Now WE are the only ones in the free world who do not have Netflix!!! lol
We have been thinking about though. I just don't wnat to be trapped in front of a screen 24/7. I know, control Jim.
Glad to hear your grief is easing a bit and you both are able to celebrate Nacho's life with you.
Oh good! You will learn to read tarot cards! I had mine done a few years back and I didn't understand a word she said!! lol
    Have a great weekend.

    1. I hear you, Jim! And it is about control. We don't sit in front of the TV very much either. There are other things I'd rather be doing. But it is nice to have, especially at night when we want to kick back and watch a movie. Plus, you can take it for a trial run and see how you feel about it. And you can cancel at any time.

Each day is a little better than the last with Nacho. We are able to share stories about her and laugh at some of her funniest moments. She was such a sweet soul and we miss her terribly, but it was her time to go.

  8. Healing from the loss of a pet is so hard. I'm glad to hear you're doing better.

Netflix is my friend on really yucky days. Nothing better than a good movie while the rest of the world is whirling by!

My favorite Tarot deck is Tarot of the Spirit. I've had them for almost 25 years. They are remarkable in their relationship to spirit, mind, emotions and physical aspects.

I love my chakra bracelet but also have crystals for each chakra. Years ago I would often lay on the floor and place each crystal on it's corresponding chakra and listen to Steven Halpern's CD, Chakra Suite. It really helped energize me or relax me, depending on my intention. Hey! I'm going to look for that CD and get those stones out. Time to get back to tuning it!

    Have a great weekend.

    1. I looked up that Tarot deck. How beautiful! I can see why it's a favourite. I envy all of you who are so far along in your journey with these cards. I picked up a beginner's deck and I'm just getting started! Ah well, we have to start somewhere, don't we?

What a wonderful way to energize or relax! I've been researching about crystals the past couple of days. I'm considering them, as well, but I'm going to start with the chakra bracelet first. This is such an amazing journey. It's the second time in my life that I'm focusing on my spirituality and it's just as wonderful!

  12. first off - love your drawings and that dream catcher is terrific. Yes I have actually about 10 sets of either tarot or other cards that I bought through the years but haven't really used in a long time. i will have to get them out of the boxes they are in to get their names again. i do remember I loved the spirit animal totem cards and used that one a lot. i guess I was about 30 when I started my "spiritual journey" seeking and when my mom died when i was 34 i really got into meditation and many other things. I'm still very into it to this day - reading every day, meditating in the mornings, etc... It really helps clear out the judgements and crap i don't want in my mind. Anyway - glad u are moving through into the part of grieving where the memories don't hurt as much. ... I really am enjoying seeing your drawings.

    1. Thanks, Sandy. Drawing is something that I wanted to take up for a long time. I'm not sure why I waited this long but I'm glad I'm finally doing it.

I was in my early 30s, too, when I began my first intense spiritual journey. Back then I was learning about chakras and reincarnation and auras and a whole bunch of other stuff, but I never tackled tarot cards or anything like that. My kids were very young at the time and life kept getting in the way...LOL Now I'm an empty nester and life has gotten very quiet, which has been perfect for exploring a second spiritual journey and drawing. There is always something interesting to learn in life!

  17. Martha, I am so sorry to hear about Nacho! My heart goes out to you and George. I read about Nacho on Rain's blog, and I didn't realize who she meant until I was writing a comment, and it suddenly clicked. Grief is the price we pay for love, but with enough time the heartache passes and the joy and love billows. Wishing you a lightening in your grief, my friend. My massage therapist, whom I've had over twenty years, always does a card reading for me before my massage. I'm continually blown away by the cards that come up and by her readings. Like Rain, she doesn't do reversed cards. I think it's great that you're starting to work with them. I can see I have a lot of catching up to do! Wishing you and George a vastly improving new year!

    1. I've caught up on all your posts that I've missed, Martha! I'm glad that you had a wonderful Christmas season and that you got to spend time with your daughters. I really enjoyed seeing your new dining room and living room. Everything looks so calm and lovely. Like you, I need an ordered space around me to thrive. I think my favorite thing of all was the photo of your brother as Santa Claus with your young daughters ~ sweet and poignant. I'm sorry to hear that your mother continues to have a challenging time. Caring for an aging parent is emotionally and physically difficult. I hope that she is improving some. I could practically taste your cookies, and your mention of raspberry thumbprints brought back so many delicious memories of my mother. I really enjoy seeing your artwork, watching you grow as an artist. As for Merry Christmas ~ I accept whatever people greet me with in the spirit the greeting was given. I try to be cognizant of what an individual prefers, but I have no problem with "Happy Holidays." 2017 felt like a difficult year for me, but when I tried to come up with three words to describe it, I only came up with one negative: anxious. I finally settled on "rich" (in experiences good and bad) and "meaningful" (as in times with the people I love). Have a great week!

    2. Louise, thank you for visiting my blog and taking the time to read my posts! And for all your lovely and thoughtful comments. I always enjoy them! I hope 2018 is a wonderful year for you. And I hope it includes a lot of fun adventures! Ours started off with the death of a very beloved pet but I won't let it define the whole year. It was Nacho's time to go and I will find peace with it as the days go by.
